diplomat at arms. retief of the c.d.t. ah but did you ever read turn left at thursday. that was my first introduction to him. and the second s.f. book i ever read. the first s.f. book i read had 3 nicols von rijn stories by poul anderson. this was back in 68 when i was in the air force. =^^= .../\...
I think I've read most of Laumer's books - but that was a long time ago. Retief still walks the halls of my memory. I think if I get the chance, I may re-read the Retief novels and shorts. I've often thought that someone should make a movie based on the books. Who is your nomination for actor to play the lead role?
His niece was my sub just about 2 years ago. His brother writes also. Frank does historical non-fiction, mostly on the seminole wars in FL.
the guy who played remington steel would make a great retief, at least appearance wise matching kelly freas (or was it mike whalin who painted them, i forget) interpretation for the covers. of course he's a tom selek type of charicter too. or any of the james bond actors. of course the ones i'm thinking of are probably mostly too old now, if the're even still alive. i'm not really up on who'se in the acting profession these days. but i aggree whole heartedly retief stories would make a GREAT series of movies. or even a tv series for a season or two. but then someone would have to write some new ones to keep it going. i wonder if laumer is still arround and would feel up to it. =^^= .../\... speaking of whome, i'm currently rereading for the upteenth time "night of delusions". "matrix" circa 1972 anyone? (not that i've ever SEEN matrix, but just as a guess this could maybe have kind of half way inspired it?) =^^= .../\...
