One of the things I want to do is to gather as many "Resources, References, & Stuff like that" in one thread as possible. I hope all of you reading this will contribute to this thread.

Another of the things I intend to do in general is to correct wrong ideas and misconceptions. One of those wrong ideas is that the U.S.Department of Agriculture is against Organic Gardening & Farming. They are not, at least not now. Throughout its early history, organic agriculture was treated with either hostility or apathy by the USDA, land grant universities, and conventional agriculture in general. Fortunately, the atmosphere for discussing, investigating and using organics has improved considerably. While it did not become boldly evident until the 1990s, the tide actually began turning in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Another misconception is that Organic Gardening and Farming is only a hippie thing. That's flat wrong. Take #54 on the following list as an example.

Anyhow, this is part of "Organic Gardening: A Guide to Resources"

    Compiled by:
    Stephanie M. Boehmer
    Alternative Farming Systems Information Center
    National Agricultural Library
    Agricultural Research Service
    U.S. Department of Agriculture
    10301 Baltimore Avenue, Room 132
    Beltsville, MD 20705-2351
    301-504-6153

I have included here only the general resources (1 thru 155). There are also sections about:
    Garden Design, Landscaping, and Lawns
    Organic Production Techniques
    Soil Fertility and Composting
Growing Organic Food: Fruits, Vegetables, and Herbs
    Ornamental Plants and Flowers
Pest, Weed, and Disease Identification and Control
Organic Lifestyle: Recipes, Memories, and Inspiration

For a total of 421 resources. Note also that in several cases the entire text is available on-line. I'll add more of those later. The entire list is at: http://www.nal.usda.gov/afsic/AFSIC_pubs/org_gar.htm#toc1a

    General Organic Gardening Resources
The material listed in this section broadly address organic gardening. Some entries may cover only organic methods while others may include only a chapter or section dealing with organic topics.
