    Hey all,
Two other veggies and I are doing a research project for our College Environment class. We really want to make an impression on the teacher and students (there will be a presentation as well), and I was wondering if you all could turn me towards some good articles about the environmental impacts of the Hog Industry, Cattle Industry and Poultry Industry. My focus is on the Hog Industry, so if anyone can hook me up with some points of focus or some articles I'd really appreciate it!

    Thank you all,
    Pat:)

Mick Hinton wrote some in the Daily Oklahoman in 98-99, about the time Peta's video was being filmed.
Look at what's in the waste, how it's held, where it goes and how the "safety" goes wrong.
Looks like Mick is still writing, but my guess is he's just covering the capitol now.

    check her references.

I plugged in hog farms western Oklahoma.
I recall a woman in North Carolina was always sending Mick stuff at the school paper (I was a student of his wife, Sue) and then she was in touch with me once or twice when I went to work at the Oklahoman.
She had similar aquifer issues, iirc.

Not off the top of my head, but I think this is a great idea! Good luck with your project:)

(Tip: Use your school JSTOR or BIOLINK archive and search "trophic efficienc**"

-Also look at Eugene P Odum's works (esp Fundamental of Ecology)... he came up with the "universal model of ecological energy flow" (ie. a single trophic level, and representation of a food chain... the net production of one trophic level becomes the ingested energy at the next higher level... but energy is lost through excretion, respiration, transfer from ingestion/assimilation, etc)
