by Hubert Selby Jr. Has anyone read it? I am reading it right now..it's really good...very close to the movie so far (but im only 60 pages in). What do you think?
loved it. im not sure which came first, the movie or the book. but whichever it was, they sure did a great adaptation of it.
i haven't read it, but i did read "The Demon" by Hubert Selby, as well as some of his short stories. i love his writing style--no quotations, no commas--just a general lack of regard for traditional writing structure.
How was "The Demon"....would you mind telling me about it? I need to read 2 books by him and some short stories.
the demon is about this guy named Harry (selby uses this name in virtually all of his work, which could be another topic of discussion) who is trying to do his best to lead a normal life. he gets married and has a child, but there still seems to be something missing from his life. eventually he realizes that he has some bizarre desire to commit violent acts, and finally he does so by pushing an innocent bystander into an oncoming train while no one is looking. he becomes obsessed with committing these acts, and if he doesn't do so every so often, then he becomes "sick", the way a heroin addict would experience withdrawals. the ending is easy to guess, but the book is still a pretty warped, entertaining read.
i have only seen the movie i wasnt aware that there was a book. i enjoy reading more than movies. mistress- you are pretty i bet you smile nicely
The book came first. I know that Aronofsky got hooked on Last Exit to Brooklyn while studying for his exams at Harvard. I think Aronofsky also did one of his first short films in film school based on it as well.
AAAWWW thankyou I dont have a pic of me smiling on my computer..(thats the only one I have right now) thanks for you comment.. personally I enjoy reading the book than watching the movie to see how well the movie is done compared to the book.
