ok i got this on myspace once...and loved it! it's long but so worth the read if you were born in the 80's

you know you're a child of the EIGHTIES and

    You're a 90's kid if:

You've ever ended a sentence with the word "SIKE!"

You can sing the rap to "The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air"

You remember when Kurt Cobain, Tu Pac, River Phoenix, and Selena died.
    (Rest in Peace)

You know that "WOAH" comes from Joey from "Blossom" and that "How
Rude!" comes from Stephanie from "Full House"

You remember when it was actually worth getting up early
on a Saturday to watch cartoons.

You got super excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at
    school.

    You remember reading "Goosebumps"

You know the profound meaning of "Wax on, wax off"

You have pondered why Smurfette was the only female smurf.

You took plastic cartoon lunch boxes to school.

you danced to "wannabe" by the Spice Girls, Females: had a new motto,
Males: got a whole lot gay-er. (so tell me what you want, what you
really really want.)...and wore the 5 in. shoes

You remember the craze then the banning of slap bracelets and slam books.

You still get the urge to say "NOT" after (almost) every sentence...Not...

Where in the world is Carmen San Diego? was both a game and a TV game show.

    Captain Planet.

You remember when super nintendo's became popular.

You remember watching home alone 1, 2 , and 3........and tried to pull
    the pranks on "intruders"

    "I've fallen and I can't get up"

    Two words... Trapper Keeper.

You ever got injured on a Slip 'n' Slide

You wore socks over leggings scrunched down

"Miss Mary Mack, Mack, Mack, all dressed in black, black, black, with
silver buttons, buttons, buttons, all down her back, back, back" SHE
ASKED HER MOTHER MOTHER MOTHER FOR FIFTY CENTS CENTS CENTS TO SEE THE
ELEPHANTS PHANTS PHANTS JUMP OVER THE FENCE THE FENCE THE FENCE
he jumped so high high high he touched the sky sky sky and he didnt
come back back back til the forth of july ly ly he jumped so low ow ow
he stubbed his toe toe toe and thats the end end end of the elephants
    show show show

You remember boom boxes vs. cd players

You remember New Kids on The Block when they were cool

You knew all the characters names and their life stories on "Saved By
    The Bell "

You played and or collected "Pogs"

You watched the original Care Bears, My Little Pony, and Ninja Turtles

NANCY DREW AND THE HARDY BOYS WERE THE BEST MYSTERY BOOKS

Yikes pencils and erasers were the stuff!

All your school supplies were "Lisa Frank"
    brand.(pencils.notebooks.binders.etc.)

You remember when the new Beanie Babies were always sold out.

You used to wear those stick on earings, not only on your ears, but at
    the corners of your eyes.

You always said, "Then why don't you marry it!"

You remember when everyone went slinky crazy.

You remember when razor scooters were cool.

    When we were younger:

    Before the MySpace frenzy.

Before the Internet & text messaging.

    Before Sidekicks & iPods.

    Before MIKE JONES

    Before PlayStation2 or X-BOX.

Back when you put off the 5 hours of homework you had every night.

WHEN LIGHT UP SNEAKERS WERE KOOL

When you rented VHS tapes, not DVDs.

When gas was $0.95 a gallon & Caller ID was a new thing.

When we recorded stuff on VCRs & paid $3.50 for a movie.

When we called the radio station to request songs to hear off our walkmans.

When 2Pac and Biggie where alive.

When the Chicago Bulls were the best team ever.

    Way back...

    Red Light, Green Light 1, 2, 3

    feel the same way lol!!)

When you begged to go to McDonalds for dinner everyday.

When Toys R Us overuled the mall.

    hypercolor t-shirts

Go back to the time when:

Decisions were made by going 'eeny-meeny-miney-moe' catch a tiger by
the toes if he hollers let him go 'eeny-meeny-miney-moe'
    OR
Bubble gum, bubble gum in a dish how many pieces do you wish??

Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming 'do over!'

'Race issue' meant arguing about who ran the fastest.

    the lottery.

Scrapes & bruises were kissed & made better.

It was a big deal to finally be tall enought to ride the 'big people'
rides at the fair. (I still wish i was) lmao

When playing Nintendo was the hardest thing ever.

When Ninja Turtles ruled the world.

    DID I DO THAAAAAAAAAT???

Reading this amazes me. I've been exposed to probably 95% of all of that... and I'm not even American and didn't grow up anywhere close to the US. Damn media :D

That did bring some great memories back though.

Cable TV in the 80s seemed a lot better than what it is today. It's too flashy and neurotic today. It had more substance back then. :)

how does 9/11 have anything to do w/ the fact that we don't wear our hair in side ponytails and wear scrunched socks w/ hypercolor t-shirts while watching full house on TGIF ??

I mean really, we just grew up..

i'm not saying 9/11 didn't change stuff, but the fact that we grew up and time seems to move forward has nothing to do w/ skip it's and pogs.......

I'm not talking about you personally/you are wrong..the era the 90's ended an that date, and then a great serious silent period began, its not all about you

I am still very confused how these relate...
and you sound harsh to me w/ the ...."YOU ARE WRONG" and " IT"S NOT ALL ABOUT YOU" statements..

i just wanted this too be a happy thread, reminiscing the good ole days before we really grew up and had to make serious decisions when life was easy..and didn't consist of all of this argumentative stuff.....I'm sorry I don't want to argue..

There was an innocence pre-911 when we could squander time and money investigating the love life of the president while ignoring more important issues that led to events such as 911. Those days are pretty much gone. The younger people today will grow up in a different type of world.

In my opinion I don't think there was anything innocent about the 90's. Things were progressivly getting worse and worse... and always have been ....
And no doubt every generation grows up in a different world than the last....

And why do things always turn political..this was supposed to be a happy thread.......about our youth......and childhood.............

You referred to the 90s as innocent and happy days. I agreed with you then you got upset and said they weren't innocent. (??)

I think the grown ups and leaders were living in child-like atmosphere in the 90s, able to spend time on things that weren't real issues, much like how children do. Things changed after 'you know what'.

The 90s was also an era before the TV screen became all cluttered with pop-up ads. They used to let us alone to enjoy the shows back then. :)

red light green light was fun...........
