hey everyone. im having trouble expanding my musical horizons which is why i wanna start listening to more reggae. however, i want to see more of that style of music than just bob marely (dont get me wrong, he is amazing) or the mainstream watered down reggae (shaggy, sean paul, shit like that). what are your favourite reggae bands? anybody wanna recommend me some good artists? thanks.

Check on BBC Radio's website ( www.bbc.co.uk/radio ) and they had a show called A Beginner's Guide To Reggae archived. I'm not sure if it's still there but it couldn't hurt to look.

Ok, here are a few records that will satisfy, I guarantee you.

Steel Pulse - Hansworth Revolution, Tribute To The Martyrs, Caught You (Reggae Fever), True Democracy, Earth Crisis. After that they begin to get a little patchy.

    Bunny Wailer - Blackheart Man

    Culture - Two Sevens Clash

    The Abyssinians - Satta Massagana

Third World - Third World, 96 degrees In The Shade

    Alpha Blondy - Jerusalem

    Mighty Diamonds - Right Time

This is a healthy start. Let me know what you think once you've heard them.

Also check out shit that isn't jsut Roots Reggae like Tippa Irie, Half Pint, Barrington Levy and Sizzla. And other bands that have reggae influence are Sublime (of course), Slightly Stoopid, and Long Beach Dub Allstars (the leftover band from Sublime after lead singer Brad Nowell died). And if u are into reggae than u probably also like ska, so.... The Skatalites, The Specials, and The Slackers are all good.
