We used to have a user group for the UK forum. I think it's time we reform that group because I'm planning some great new features that will be available to groups.

There's going to be a group page where members can contribute articles, reviews and other types of content. But since only members can contribute you must join up if you want to join in the fun!

But first I'm going to ask you fine ppl what name you'd like to give the group so I can set it up. Then ppl can ask to join the group.

I'm thinking of making Peace-Phoenix the group leader, although there can be more than one, and they'll have more control over the group page.

So come up with a group name and I'll set it up soon! :)

Something simple, but distinctinve would work best I think. Hipforums UK is often used as the defacto title for this collection of forums and that title has more meaning to the outside world than simply the UK Forum. My suggestion would be to use Hipforums UK or something along the same lines as the de jure title of the new community group. Look forward to exploring the possibilities of this new feature. We've grown so much over the last year and I think we're definitely ready to take this forum in new directions. And if you guys are happy to be stuck with me as the group leader, then I'm more than happy to take the job and continue to help build this place into the friendliest, most open and welcoming community both online and offline....

Empire, LOL! That sure is backwards looking, no? ;)

Actually I was thinking of something like Hip Brits or such.

Funny thing, like most Yanks I'm never sure whether to call that place you live the U.K. Britain, Great Britain, England, or whatever.

Doesn't the UK include places like Australia too? Is that not part of the Kingdom still? Or is it not United anymore? So that's why you get to name yourselves. I don't wanna get in trouble for including or excluding someone on some remote island somewhere... ;)

Great Britain consists of Wales, Scotland, and England.

The United Kingdom consists of Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and England.

So, really, the proper name is the United Kingdom. You can call us anything, so long as you don't refer it to 'England'. It's a big insult to the Celts.

Australia was never part of the United Kingdom, even though our Queen is still their head of state. They used to be part of the Empire and are now in the British Commonwealth. Hope that helps.

Yeah you're thinking of the Commonwealth skip - 53 ex-British Empire nations who still have the British Monarch as their symbolic head of state. 'Hipforums UK' would do me...

Thanks for that bit of info. Yeah, I never use England anymore since I lived in Europe, but that's what most Yanks call it, while you Brits seem to prefer UK.

I think calling it England would also be insulting to the Scots and Welsh, no? ;)

Are you sure there are STILL that many countries honoring the Queen?

BTW, I'm hoping to have a demo of the new system by this weekend, if the technical difficulties don't slow it down...

Actually I was a bit wrong there - the Commonwealth consists of 53 nations, the Queen is the head of the commonwealth, but only head of state of 16 of those nations, known as Commonwealth Realms and including Australia, Canada, New Zealand etc. You learn something trivial and dull every day:tongue:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth_of_nations

I always use "UK" since United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the name of the sovereign state itself - Britain, England etc are just names of part of it.

But as the Queen's the Sovereign and head of the Commonwealth they're honouring her by even being a part of the Commonwealth.

What about JAY UK hipforums; or just DAVE UK. This way you all could honour me on a daily bases.

It would be great to chew over some ideas for a few days so as to start some tastey suggestions even if they seem as lame as the ones I've said. One man's lame idea becomes the other's revelation. The book of Dave chapter 2 v5.
