so i havent lost my job, but i did get 2 hours cut off my work day. It's not cool. I can't afford to lose 2 hours of work a day. I'm wondering if my boss is losing money since the recession kicked in, or if he's simply scared that he might lose money in the near future. i feel like alot of people are using the recession to scare you in to doing things. There are commercials all over the place using the recession to benefit. On the other hand, there are some companies who are giving helpful tips on how to save money. Virgin recently did this with http://www.screwyourecession.ca But why are they doing this kind of thing? What's the point? By bringing up the thought of a recession, arent we jsut looking at the glass half empty? i dunno.
Your boss more than likely truly is losing money right now. I know of so many people right now who have had their hours cut lately.
its truly crappy. are you recesion-proofhippychick? "Money for the poor?" "don't mind if i do" name the reference.
Me? Well, I'm a stay at home mother, but my husband, yes, if things for the company got in really bad shape, he could get his hours cut. It's happened before in the past, not for his normal working hours but for over-time hours, and he tends to put a lot of OT in, brings work home and does it here.
Abandon ship, I says. If things are really that bad in the US, seek your fortune somewhere else. Clearly it is no longer the land of opportunity. There's plenty of work for the right person in Europe, and I would assume there's a lot of work still to be found in Australia and New Zealand as well. That reference is, I believe, from Home Alone 2.
I'm in Japan and haven't been affected. I agree with thinking outside the box about where to live however - hence I live in Japan
