I'm getting bored with the same music that I keep listening to. Currently I'm listening to Ariel Pink and The Dodos, and was really into Animal Collective, but got too strange for me. I'm looking to find some bands that have a natural sound, acoustic, anything weird or folky that has a "free spirit". Recommend me a band or artist!
Almost anything by The Levellers, or by Galliano (hard to find their stuff ever since the late 90s). I'd totally recommend Jarvis Cocker's "Cunts still rule the world" (on the soundtrack to Children of Men), or the ROlling Stones Wild Horses... the rest of their stuff has a tendency to suck ass, but Wild Horses is the peak of their talent.
^^Nick Drake's "Pink Moon" got me to look at his stuff closer. Right now, it has been: Kings Of Leon for me. Their albums, Aha Shake Heartbreak & Because Of The Times are exactly what I was craving! Best show I have seen by far. Better than U2, Rush.....(& I'm a drummer!!!) Ha!
Solid Air by John Martyn is a classic acoustic album for English folk, try Liege and Lief by Fairport Convention Dick Gaughan is a very good Scottish folk artist, full of passion Enjoy!
Ok, I am not joking here. Look up Luke Temple ... the album is called Light a Match for a Gasoline World (his first I think). This album is fantastic, Sufjan Stevens says this guys voice reminds him of an angel and Sufjan himself is amazing sounding sooo.... One of my favorite albums.
Do you mind if it's in Russian or Armenian? Because there is this great Russian/Armenian band called Deti Picasso, they fit into the "folky" and "free spirit" categories, and possibly the "weird" category as well, although I wouldn't know because very few things are "weird" for me. Judging by the bands you listed, we've got similar taste in music. Some random bands I like: El Guincho, Dr. Dog, Born Ruffians, The Octopus Project / Black Moth Super Rainbow, Caribou P.S. http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4321790#post4321790
So did you get a chance to listen to anything? Dr. Dog is from my hometown, it's funny to hear people talking about them in NC.
wilco.wilco.wilco.wilco. and more wilco. Wilco's Myspace Page They're very chill, not really folksy, kind of indie(but not that mainstream indie crap), I don't know just check them out. Give em a few listens. I'd be very suprised if you dont like them. Also, have you ever heard of Iron and Wine? Hope this helps
