Reasons for you young folks to be happy-

1-Because you were born into a beautiful yet imperfect world that you have the power to change! 2-You have these cool computers to find out damn near everything, of course they have limits like how high is the sky or where do I go when I die-3-Because your more techno savy your government is alot more afraid of you then they were of us years ago-We had newspapers' magazines and telephones-you have the net-It is much harder for Washington to hide things now-if one person knows it the whole world knows it in seconds!-Thats a good thing!-That is why so many scandals are happening so fast back to back-information sharing has improved-In the Viet Nam days the soldiers didn't have internet access cuz there was none-not for them anyway-I'm sure our government would much rather prefered that the internet stayed in government control-the less we know the easier it makes their job of covering it up! So be happy and enjoy your world-there used to be a radio station in the Bay Area that always signed off with this-"well'thats the news'and if you didn.t like it, go out and make some of your own"

 

Of course, we have this huge black cloud hanging over our head - we know the inevitable economic crash is going to come from paying off your debt and funding your retirement

 

Organize and change things my friend. Don't blame the freaks here for the economics of this world. Go after after those who spend billions on wars and change the prices of consumer goods on a whim.

The black cloud will remain unless the people seeding it are exposed and taken on at every turn.

All folks seem to want to do is bitch, moan, groan, complain ... you know - whine. Nobody seems to want to get together and start working on changing things. Assuming that defecits ran up in the late sixties and early seventies (because government debt is money effectively borrowed against future generations) was somehow done with my consent is a joke. Generationally, you are directly responsible.

And of course we're sucking it up. But insinuating that you've somehow left some rosy society for us is close to a bald-faced lie.

Spooner, first let me say that I salute you because you're clearly a person who cares, and cares a lot, about the situations and problems facing the world and this country. And you are passionate in your beliefs, plus you speak out for and I think act upon those beliefs. These are things that I, and probably a lot of us around here, salute.

But Dude, you're coming across as hostile, aggressive and confrontational to some of us. We are NOT you enemy. Lots of us have been fighting againt the same problems you mention for decades. And for the most part, the problems you point out, not just in this thread, are things I too think need to be changed and fixed. But I think you should do more back ground research.

For example, the National Debt ("government debt") is an outrage and a sin against the future. Plus the interest being paid is little mentioned. The interest expense paid on the National Debt is the third largest expense in the federal budget. In Fiscal Year 2006, the U. S. Government spent $406 Billion of your money on interest payments to the holders of the National Debt. Compare that to NASA at $15 Billion, Education at $61 Billion, and Department of Transportation at $56 Billion.

But "defecits ran up in the late sixties and early seventies" were next to nothing compared to the annual interest. If you'll check this chart:

Notice the National Debt in 1976 and the increase in debt of the past six years. The last six years the National Debt has increased more that twice the cummulative total for the first two hundred years of the U.S. Notice also how the amount of the debt leveled off the last couple Clinton years, and notice the amount of increase during what is labeled "1st Oil War" and "2ed Oil War".

By the way, the debt going up is no accident, it is part of a plan. Why is the National Debt going up? "Starve the beast"

And Spooner, for what it's worth, here's a tip from someone who has been doing political debates for over 40 years. You'll be more effective if you state any agreements, then state your disagreements. State your case, what you think & why. If possible illustrate with examples. Then back-up what you're saying with sources and references. And then probably the most important (and what most folks often omitted) part, give your suggested solution and a plan for making the solution happen.

Solutions, that's what seems to be most missing. Look around these (and other) forums, go back to older posts, as far back as possible. You'll see a lot of the same problems over and over... and general agreement about them. But at the same time notice the number of suggested, workable, solutions.
