I'm thinking about dreading my hair up. I really like the look of big, thick dreads. I've been reading a lot of mixed things about this though. Lots of people are really against thick dreads and say that they become full of mold, never dry out, are difficult to wash and have other problems. Lots of people online have really bad things to say about thick dreads. But I noticed that most of it is second-hand information and hearsay. Other people say that thick dreads are fine. What do you think? I want to just have about 20-25 fat dreads on my head. Will my head be full of mold and my dreads break apart after a few years like some people say? Or is this BS?
My thicker ones def take longer to dry, and I could see how that could be more prone to mold , for sure. I don't understand the break apart thing - Seems the thicker ones would be stronger (assuming you kept them clean and healthy). I have noticed some people look better with thicker dreads ( and vise versa) . Also- I have 20 something dreads... And I don't think mine are fatties at all, but my hair is freakishly thin
Thicker ones will take longer to dry but as long as you keep on top that off that and don't let them stay wet there should be no problem! Big chunky ass motherfuckers are always sweet
I had super thick dreadlocks for 3 and a half years. There was no mould. Infact they smelled gorgeous when combing.
They were liek supa phat yo Anyway op, I have about 25 now I think, and they're not that fat really. If you stay between 20-25 they shouldn't turn out that fat, unless you have really thick hair. If you go under, yeah they'll be starting to get fat. You may get mould, or you might not. I would say there's a higher chance because they'll take longer to dry. You may also find that they get heavy and uncomfortable once they get long and mature, because the weight may not be as evenly distributed than if you were to have thinner ones. A guy on knottylocks had this problem, and also hat problems with stuff inside them. Up to you, fatties are pretty cool though.
