is by far my favorite sci-fi author. The Illustrated Man, all those other short story collections, of course Fahrenheit 451, he's just an absolutely amazing author... some of his stories have really changed my life.

my favorite short story by him is Kaleidoscope, in The Illustrated Man... anyone else like bradbury/have some favs by him?

I've only ever read Fahrenheit 451... Although it really made me think hard. I really like it, and I'll definitely check out The Illustrated Man, now that I've heard of it. Thanks.

I just did a HUGE research paper about him for my english class. It was amazing to learn what inspired him to write the things we read, and I loved reading many of his books. The Illustrated Man was definately my favorite :)

I've got a weird choice... Something Wicked This Way Comes. I love several othes of his classics... The Illustrated Man, The Martian Chronicles, etc.... he was a great short story writer, but Something Wicked just has a quality that I found especially evocative. Maybe part of it was because it wasn't set in a futuristic setting, but actually in the past. It was as if he used the last great era of American innocence and set this malignance in it that made it effective. Still a book that I enjoy.

I have always thought of Ray Bradbury as a leashed talent. He could have been much greater if he would have written less short stories and teenager-oriented books. I would have loved to see more philosophical fiction out of him, I am sure that he was capable of it.

^ i always LOVED the short stories, perfect for a quick but very deep plunge into psychology and metaphysical. or just plain old entertainment. i found a lot of good philosophical fiction with him in the short stories, but that's just me. i havent been reading him lately, though... gotta catch up again!

any sci fi authors like him out there that someone can recommend?

I can't find words to even begin to state my admiration for Bradbury. I don't know whether to call him a poet or a painter who paints with words or a dreamer who dreams in print or an observer who shares insights masterfully or... all that.

Martian Chronicles is probably my favorite.

Finally got around to reading Fahrenheit 451 the other week. I will check out his other stories as I never realised that many people liked his other work.
