he's awesome.. i watched him in my world cultures class in 11th grade.. and ever since then i love him
I think hes playing on the UC Berkeley campus this summer, I'm gonna try and go see him. Itll probably be cool.
He was supposed to play in Birmingham last October but the show was cancelled, and I wanted to go so bad. He inspired me to get a sitar that I'm determined to learn...one day
gotta love his music - one of my faves! I would dearly love to see him play live, what a great experience it must be
There is a series of recordings of his live shows through the late Sixties that are really sick, with master Allah Rakha on tablas. There is always an extended Tabla solo in 10 cycle played between the first and last Ragas which are all classic. If you can find Live in Monterey, Woodstock, San Fransisco, London, all of those are bomb. Much more intense in a live setting than isolated in a recording studio. good shit.
If you like the sound of Ravi, and also happen to be a fan of either advant garde or free jazz, check out Alice Coltrane (yes the widow to John) stuff with Pharoah Sanders. AMAZING, trust me, I would not lie to you friends
I love indian music. Ravi Shankar is really good, a master of the sitar. sometimes i play his song On the monterey '67 pop festival DVD, good dancing music, good chillin mysic, good background music
i agree, amazingly relaxing...i love the citar. Would love to hear more of his stuff, only have one CD.
