We've done a fair bit of omni-bashing on this forum. :) But I'd just like to express my happiness at finding there are some really nice, considerate, civilised omnivores... it's quite a refreshing change...

Yesterday, this woman made "dinner"... uhhhh, I guess you could call it that... uhhh... she brought bags of really nasty, cheap tortilla chips, and a few ziploc bags of lettuce, tomatoes and grated cheese. And a huuuuuge bowl of meat. So anyway, we were to open a bag of crisps, add toppings, and eat it with a fork.

I wasn't very ecstatic about eating, errrrr, cardboard-texture crisps topped with lettuce and tomato... so I ate nothing... I got completely repulsed when the woman fried up some more meat, put it in another bowl, and went around yelling "FRESH MEAT, ANYONE??? FRESH MEAT!!" Yuuuuuuck.

So this really sweet lady (Geraldine) realised that I wasn't eating anything... and she gave the hostess (Karin) a total bashing for not providing an adequate vegetarian meal. Karin couldn't be bothered to prepare proper veggie food... her answer was something like "she doesn't have to put the meat in if you don't want to".

Geraldine, on the other hand, is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeallllllly nice... see, it just proves that omnis CAN live in peace with vegetarians... and that not all of them are rude/ignorant. She always makes at least two vegetarian options for me, so I can be picky... I have a lot of respect for her because of that. She's a great contrast to the majority of omnis who, if they DO prepare a veggie meal, they'll either top it with like 10 pounds of cheese, or limit it to a lettuce and carrots. Yeah, lettuce and carrots are great, but vegetarians DO need to eat something more ;)

I also thought it was really sweet of the lady to stand up for me (I've gotten tired of complaining about the lack of proper veggie foods, if there aren't any, I just won't eat anything). Hardly any omnis are that considerate.

So everyone, post your example of a really nice omni, yanno, just to provide a contrast to the "Really Angry Omnis" thread ;)

Well, one of my omni friends started the whole conversation with a "meat tastes so good" comment, which I ignored for a while, but then it was obvious that he wanted to talk about my reasons for being vegan. After I said a few things, like "I find meat, dairy, and eggs to be disgusting" another one of my omni friends (an ex-veggie for 3 years) started backing me up and saying how much more ethical and healthy a vegan diet is. It is good to hear that from an omni, but it is sad that she went back to an omni diet after being vegitarian for so long.

Why on earth did she do that?

    Anyway back to the point...

My parents are pretty cool. They have decided that after a year of being veggie it counts as a lifestyle choice rather than just a phase (twenty day to go, yay). Over time they have become really accepting of it. Or at least don't let on that they aren't :)

We are having friends round next weekend and one is a vegetarian. Much to my suprise my mother suggested we serve just veggie food. Not sure if my dad will go for it but it's worth a try.

Last night we went round friends for dinner and they are always really good about preparing veggie food for me and dairy free stuff for my brother. And they never make a big deal out of it, which is great.

I would have to nominate my parents as well. They are both big meat-eaters, but they have really supported me from when I first went vegetarian. It probably helped that I didn't live at home though:p, but really, whenever I come to visit they they don't just fix me a side dish, when I visit my mom makes the whole meal vegetarian, which is nice. She's getting better at it to, it used to be just veggie burgers or spaghetti with fake meat in the sauce, but last time I went over she made spinach lasagne and eggplant parmesan, the time before she made some awesome veggie chili, and last Christmas we had lots of relatives over and we had a mexican christmas dinner, my mom made me cheese and veggie enchiladas.

My dad's cool too, we always debate each other about politics or whatever, and we debate about vegetarianism too, but it's cool, because we enjoy debating. Besides, the guy happily eats veggie fare when I visit and never complains about a lack of meat, he gets mad props for that.

Perhaps it was around the same time you stopped being sarcastic? Is there really any need to create antagonism in a thread where people are being positive?

Looked like sarcasm to me. Sorry if I was mistaken. I guess the days of Astro have led me to expect the worst :(

DrAtomik, I think Oniko wasn't trying to attack monkey-boy or anything, she just congratulated him on becoming vegetarian.

Now, since monkey-boy probably still eats fish, he maybe could have found that comment sarcastic, but if he really was vegetarian (vegetarian = doesn't eat flesh), it wouldn't have ended up sarcastic at all.

Hmmmmm, Oniko, do you think monkey-boy fits into the category of rather-nice omnivores? :)

if you've ever read any other post on this forum by me, then you know that i am all for letting people live and let live. Neither side should preach to the choir. I have problems with people who do, on BOTH sides of the fence.

Try getting a clue before holding someone in contempt.

excuse me, she insulted me first.

As i said, isnt it ironic that we all find each other rude and arrogant? Try and think about it. Maybe if we all stopped trying to push our views on another person, we could ALL get along without any BS about "you sholdnt kill animals or "if you dont eat meat you're gonna die."

    edit:

    BTW, i answered the question

    let me paste it...

"Neither side should preach to the choir. I have problems with people who do, on BOTH sides of the fence." Thats who i have problems with..those are the oens that are rude and arrogant

OK, that is by far the most ridiculous thing I have heard in this topic. I have read your posts before... I remember you were one of the "gang" that got into a fight with somebody on the old forums.

Gee, and is saying "isn't it ironic that we all find each other so rude and arrogant" really "letting people live and let live"? That automatically implies that YOU find somebody rude and arrogant... and that I find somebody rude and arrogant... hinting that we're all incapable of getting along well.

And DrAtomik, I think you were the first one to mention antagonism, so, uhhhhh, you're the one who started it, not Oniko. She was merely being friendly and polite.

Darn, and this was supposed to be a happy topic :p

I'm going to use someone else's analogy here, not my own, because I think it would fit in perfectly...

Megara, if you came to the Parenting forum, and started talking about how you like to kill + eat children, would the people there be "preachy" for telling you not to kill children?

Gee, I mean, I really don't know what we're going to talk about in the vegetarian forum, if it doesn't involve NOT killing animals in some way... uhhhh... last time I checked, that was what vegetarianism is about... not killing animals... *shrugs*

Thats what i was responding too Oniko.

I'll say it again, Isnt it ironic that we all find each other to be rude and arrogant? Many veggies see omnis as rude and arrogant, many omnis see veggies to be rude and arrogant. I didnt claim ANYONE was a preacher, not sonja or you. I was takling in general terms about veggies and omnis. Neither side should be rude to each other, we all are humans after all. I dont agree with any omni who lectures a veggie and tries to persuade them to eat meat. However, if you dont want omnis to be rude to you, then you need to treat them how you wish to be treated also.

BTW Sonja, i dont know what "gang" you are talking about. But i joined these boards about 1 day before the change, and the only forum i remember posting in was the New Zealand Forum. I have however, posted quite a bunch in this forum after the change, maybe thats what you mean.

BTW sonja, did you NOT claim that someone/some people were rude/arrogant first? I think we CAN live together without being at each others throats. It just requires each side to stop preaching to the choir.

sorry, but it was sonja who brought it down by accusing me of trying to further the bashing. If you've actually read what i have said, i am against any omnis/veggies bashing each other because of what they eat.

You would be a criminal if you raped a child. You would be a criminal if you tortured Pets. I dont support breaking the law. Live and Let Live is kinda hard when you're talking about harming another human being, dont you think?

How you compare eating food for sustenanec to tortuing is beyond me.

Uhhhhh, Megara, you were the first one who said something about rude/arrogant people. Period. Just don't bring that up if you're trying to "make peace".

Had I misunderstood you, I'm sure that somebody other than you would have told me, hey, Sonja, you're wrong, she was just trying to be all nice and sweet and friendly. But nobody did...

And I'm sorry, I may have confused you with someone from the old HipForums... so... I'm sorry about that. I just thought you changed your username.

Oniko, you're probably right, I'm gonna quit trying to make sense of this, why waste my brain cells?

Sorry, thats from your first post and what prompted my response about it being ironic that we find each other all rude and arrogant.

In every single post since that first one, i have siad people need to stop preaching to the choir and let people eat whta they want, and it is you and oniko who have attacked me.

Megara, eating food for sustainance implies that you would die if you hadn't the food, ie. cow flesh or whatever.

Then how come there are so many healthy, happy, LIVING vegetarians?

I think your idea of "eating food for sustainance" just means eating food that will satisfy your tastes, regardless of whether an animal was tortured so you could get that steak on your table.

*NEWSFLASH* People can live without eating meat for sustainance, and do so rather healthily *NEWSFLASH*

So your "Live and let live" philosophy only applies to members of the Homo Sapiens species? Doesn't apply to anything else living...
