especially with '94/'95 as a point of reference, we saw the show in Philly and it was AS GOOD as The Dead. Saxophones, standing on a tower, come together, AWESOME!
Damn, you got it, man. I saw them last year and they blow me away. They played the mann last night, right? That's an amazing venue, too bad I missed it.
anyone passing through the scranton area to go to the NYC show tomorrow? i need a ride. i got gas money. i have class til 12*15 though...we can make it there before bruce gets on stage. let me know if anyone can help. lovin you family
I should have seen them this year when they came through Norfolk in Spring, but I managed to forget the date (which is why I like getting my tickets M.O.) while planning other concerts for this year. I heard they kicked ass... I've never gotten the chance to see Ratdog. I do wish that Phil and Bobby could work something out and get the dead going with Jimmy or Warren's help, maybe.
Im seeing Ratdog with Bruce Hornsby on Friday!!! Im so excited, by the end of a good Ratdog show I have to tell myself this isnt the grateful dead. Weir is still rockin!
Yeah, I hear a lot of people saying Bobby seemed to get old overnight, but he's still as good or as better than he ever was. I figure it's just the beard. I do enjoy the story about his Telecaster.
lets not have the bobby phil fight...PLEASE!!!! hahahahaha my best friend loves phil and she lived with 2 bobby fans. all i ever heard out of her mouth was "phils better" it was always funny. i miss living with her. i did the last 3 weeks of tour in april. if i wasn't in school i'd be doing it now!!!
Well, I am a bit biased as I LOVE Mark Karan (if you get a chance to say hey, do so ...he's a sweet, clear soul. Tell him Red haired Robyn from Colorado sez Let's do Indian...and a hug...) and Phil is a project band to me with the personnel changes (not a bad thing at all...great exposure to tight players) but the best P&F line up had Steve Kimock, IM not-so HO. Rat dog catches the harder rocking side of the Dead. Bobby can pull down the fire, but he's dark by nature (think WSP and swamp boogie) and that comes across powerfully. Again, dark isn't bad, it just is. Phil is more intellegensia and play from the head then the heart and balls. In a sick twisted way I wish I'd have to make the choice one night in Denver...what an energy that would churn up!
i was ratdog last year and they were quite superb. I would really compare them to the gd, but its still awesome to see bobby perform.
It's awesome to see how cohesive Ratdog has become over the years...if you just think of them as a Bobby side project or a cover band then you'll be missing out on alot. Bobby and co. are keeping the Dead spirit alive!
Yeah, they are awesome now. I saw them the night before Jerry died 8-8-95 in Central Park, they have come a long way! 8/8/1995 Central Park Summerstage, New York, NY Walkin Blues, Take Me to the River, City Girls > Fever > Eternity, Blackbird, K.C. Moan, Ain't That Peculiar, When I Paint My Masterpiece, Good Morning Little Schoolgirl, Easy to Slip > Bass/Drums > Victim or the Crime > Throwing Stones E: Easy Answers First show billed as RatDog (Opened for The Band)
i love Ratdog and Phil and Friends, but they don't compare to the Grateful Dead....both shows kick ass and are shit loads of fun, but the Grateful Dead, even todays Dead has somthing undefinable about it.....i want Bobby and Phil to kiss and make up, enough is enough, they need to get back together....i was watching those to jam the other night, on the GRATEFUL DEAD MOVIE, and they are magic together...... PS DAVINO.....i wish it was only gonna be 15 months and 4 weeks until PHISH's reunion....
