rasta dread tam

i've been on a bit of a crochet kick lately. i just finished up this tam this morning. i would have to say that dread tams are my favorite thing to crochet.

 

ooo im lovein the colors!!! it kicks ass!! damn ur making me miss my dreads lol that pattern on the stripes is soo kick ass!

I want it. but my melon is HUGE and add me hirs in there and I am screwed

question.... so if i want to crochet a dread tam for my boyfriend.... how many like stitches or whatever would i have to make the tam pretty big? cause my boyfriend's hair was thick, orange, and curly when he dreaded it up, and now only about a year later, they are ROCK HARD and fucking massive..... so i'm not sure how big to make it.

oh, and thats an awesome tam.... the colors look great together....
