A raped woman in Nigeria was stoned to death for having a child out of wedlock, the childs father was the man that raped her...he went free. She was only one of many women in Nigeria that this has happened to. In Pakistan a raped woman was also sentenced to death after confessing to being raped by her brother-in-law. An extremist Muslim father killed his daughter after her mother took her to the gynecologist, he then tried to kill her younger sister as well, apparently his daughter was now "unpure" after having visited the gynecologist. (i know that religion is religion or whatever but murder is not part of anything holy) is there a reason the U.S. government and media chooses to ignore THESE things?

The extreme oppression of women throughout the world, the systematic butchery of women and little girls throughout the world is an issue relevent to this forum.

I myself am among the disgusted when I here about women being stoned. Especially when the man is forgiven and only has to pay a small fine. This is why I am a part of many human-rights and children's rights organizations.

Any culture that doesn't respect women`s right to life and equality, deserves nothing but disrespect. And any religion or ideology that cannot be questioned, discussed or stand criticism doesn't deserve to be recognized. I live in Sweden. Girls from those cultures get murdered here too. It's enough that someone suspect that they've had a boyfriend or people talking and spreading rumours, and they get murdered through an "arranged" suicide, usually by hanging.

 

Murder goes against a law greater than religion. Our role as a species is to continue. That simple, tiny little rule is what keeps us going and is responsible for many of our drives. Even the people that feel no desire to have children, still have the urge to "give birth" to something that will continue on for generations, whether it be art or an ideal or whatever. To murder one of the same species is threatening that continuation and that goes beyond religion. But would you punish these murderers with murder, itself? That's a tough one I've yet to crack. But muslims have fallen into the same trap that every religion comes to. It's become corrupted to suit politics and agendas. Nowhere does it teach to kill these women because they have become impure. No, that's an outside teaching that has penetrated their beliefs. Like christians who are anti-gay because they read the old testement EVEN THOUGH, to be a christian, you're only supposed to really follow the new testement. And they don't follow just Jesus Christ's teachings, they follow others. Every religion becomes victim of that sort of corruption. No single religion can remain pure. That's not it's nature. So what they did is wrong because it doesn't follow their religion and it doesn't follow nature's way. It doesn't follow any law but that created by the murderers themselves. Once again, we have a case where men are trying to control sex. In every country, we have the same problem although not to the same extreme. It's everywhere! If women were organized globally, it could easily end. It's a terrible thought that these women are giving birth to the men that kill them for that very reason! Anyway, enough ranting. I agree that these murderers should be strung up by their balls and beaten senselessly before being stoned themselves. Someone should pay for those crimes.

i completely agree with everything you said here. It's ashame that women don't have a stronger voice. Some of them aren't even allowed to have a voice but these things really need to be brought to the attention of the public because you know although its an issue now it's not as big of an issue as it should be. Of course the government is probably gonna try to keep that as unimportant as possible since you know, they wouldnt get any profit from saving womens lives.

the only hope is the women themselves (& trying to change the men too, but i have less faith in men) the problem is the women in these places are so downtrodden they've lost theyre voices, & the few who still can speak are topo afraid to..the problem is greater then that though, because even in countries wherree women are more empowered many still choose to be silent or subservient..& deny theyre own strength..just look at how many women here still allw themselves to be brutalized & abused for years & years ..thats a message to men that its ok to do these horrible things..imagine if u will if ebry women in more progressive countries sood strong & united..every single one of them & refused to allow that to conntinue..noew that example would be seen around the world & women in these places would feel that strength & use it to make changes...imagine if every woman in those countries all at the same time eft theyre homes & husbands & jobs & all went to 1 place to stand strong together refusing to return till thy got the changes they demanded..no sex, no work no caring for theyre husbands & houses..no women period..the men wouldnt hold out 2 weeks

But surely it's up to these people to decide how they want to live? I.e. if anything is to be done about this type of thing, the impetus has to come from Nigerians, not white people telling them what to do. Just because something seems 'obviously' wrong to us, doesn't suddenly mean we can tell other people what to do. Would you like it if Nigerians started trying to force their moral code on USAians?
