Rap was better when the bulk of the music was geared for dancing.

In my opinon the reason Rap has gotten stale is because there isn't anymore underground style dance music like there used to be. I'am talking about the stuff you heard back in the late 80's to early 90's. Today the only danceable music is the cookie cutter commercial stuff with little lyrical creativity. Then you have the underground/backpacker stuff that has lyrical creativity but much of it isn't geared for dancing.

I think the music that came out in that late 80's to early 90's period had the better balance of both creative lyrics over danceable tracks. I think once too many rappers started slowing down their music, especialy the east coast, and de-emphasizing dance music is what hurt rap. Rap just isn't the same if it's not geared for dancing.

Here's two examples of the type of rap that I think we need more of today. Rap just hasn't been the same to me since these days. Rap needs to get it's energy back.

    not everyone is into dancing?
everything evolves. whether or not you like what it has evolved into does not matter. the songs you linked to aren't really that great. you connect the music with the times, and half of me says you want the time period back.

I know not everyone is into dancing but many people feel that rap was better when there was more dance oriented music. Dancing added more to Hip Hop. This doesn't mean that all rappers have to make more rythmic music but this type of rap has been missing for a number of years especially from the undeground/backpacker set.

I have heard reasons given why danceable muisc declined in rap such as MC Hammer's overkill with dancing by having 50 dancers on stage. This in some people's opinion caused alot of rappers to view dancing as being played-out so they started making music around the mid 90's that didn't have that dance uptempo feel.

Oh those two songs in those links are classics. Too bad you ain't feelin them.

Rap was better when Eminem and 50cent were in nappies.
