That's not a bad idea. I should also be saving the water I guess, maybe in summer to water plants. It's a good idea. I stopped bathing dog inside once he started running down the halls flicking water everywhere. Lol.

pines here have some kind of bug in them ...they dont come in the house unless its going right into the fire

looks like a giant mealworm and in the summer you can hear them chewing if you stand still near the wood pile

i try to keep her confined to the bathroom, but Ive to put the blankets on the floor .. i dont mind her getting in the hall and shaking cause the walls are only a bit painted new. the carpet tho I worry about cause its brand new. as long she dont knock the gate over to the living room and get the tv spotted up. but she will cause she runs crazy after a bath, rolling on the floor trying to dry.

We weren't overly attached to the carpet when we moved in and it's got a few stains here and there now lol, from dogs and rabbits. I honestly want all nice hardwood floors one day. :)

my shitty house is to big to go with the hardwood all around. but it would be nice.. some the old floors here are decent hardwood. but need a good sanding and lacquered to be splinter free... i just placed this carpet down in the hall about 6months ago. its to light a color for the traffic. its ok tho, I just talked to some carpet installers about getting some used carpet for cheepo or free.. told them due to the road construction around my house my dog cant get outside proper because the thundering noise scares her .. Im just not buying new carpet every year,, but will get some used carpet thats pretty nice actually just to throw down in the rooms the dog may soil. and the mud and mess they are making its just sickening to deal with ....

Our place is mainly wooden floor boards but they are very cheap. I want a nice hard floor that sounds like wood when you step on it, not all the cheaps squeaks and crackles we get atm.
The previous owndes fixed this place up to sell it, but we've already encountered a few problems. Nothing too dramatic, but yeah.. rushed, cheap renovation. =\

That's a borer... There are several species. The big ones pop when the log is in the fire.

This wood is mostly going to be cut into kindling, so bugs won't be an issue.

Our little dog is too small to do much damage after a bath. We can give her a bath in the bathroom sink if we wanted to. She gets mostly dried off right away because she can't get away. Then she runs all over the house trying to rub her fur on things for...whatever reason she does that. It's hilarious every time.

The greatroom floor in this place is solid Ash that was salvaged from a 100+ year old house... This was back in 1948. So it's almost a 200 year old floor. It creaks sometimes, has a few cracks here and there. Part of the charm. I'd never refinish it, it just wouldn't be right.

You can actually get that flooring for pretty cheap. We've spent some time shopping around for flooring lately. When our house is finished it will be almost all real hickory flooring with new 3/4 in. sub-flooring beneath it. Shouldn't make any creaking or cracking noises for a very long time.

Cool houses are cool. I like when people say they are jelly of our place XD It is pretty awesome and way too big for two girls. We have 3 bedrooms, a nice open kitchen, dining room and like a kitchen room all opened, then a separate dining room I used more of like a display room, is where all our cds, dvds, Yule tree, record player is etc. then our lounge room and toilet and a bathroom. Our garage used to have an inbuilt bar so it also has a toilet and working plumbing. We will one day build our own bar in there. Then we have a good yard, grass patch, 2 pergolas, a enclosed from the outside car port, huge driveway.. i estimate you could park almost 10 cars on our property without even using the front lawn yet. lol

It was built in 1948 and added on to twice, first sometime in the early 50's and last in 1960, so it's not that old. But architecturally it would be considered a "Mid-Century Modern" or "Usonian" style. (google that for images to get an idea) It looks like it belongs in California up in the foothills.

The girl that grew up in this house, daughter of the original owner, said there was a magazine article written about this house sometime in the 50's. I'm hoping I can get a copy of that.

No, I don't know which Mag... She said she found the article in her parents stuff but it was very faded. Hopefully it's in good enough condition to make a copy of.
