race and preferences

a sociology professor once told me that people, in general, prefer those who are like them. a women favors women, a white man favors white men, a black women favors black women, etc.

what i've noticed: why is it that black people tend to favor black people even more so than other races/cultures/whatever? i mean, it seems almost like some black people risk being criticized by other black people if they don't listen to rap music...etc. is this a result of black folk still being behind the white man in average wages for the same job? or is it a result of black people simply understanding black culture more...and well...preferring entertainment or whatnot from folk that understand what it's like to be...black.

i'm pretty much talking about black americans here. that seems, to me, to be a distinct culture, at least.

also, black people do not make less money for the same job. welfare pays the same to any race, and if they make less money from stealing it's only because they are stealing from others in the ghetto who don't have enough money to buy nice things.
