I shed tears when I heard John McCain died today. He was a true patriot--one of the few men in Congress with honor, courage, integrity and dedication to America and the republic. He was a veritable model of a dying breed--a genuine statesman. Let's hope his example and memory will inspire others to follow in his footsteps as true public servants and Americans, who put the national interest above partisan and self interests. Otherwise, the country is in big trouble. Trump pales by comparison. One of his finest moments occurred during the 2008 election at a rally when he took the mike away from a fan who said Obama was an Arab terrorist and said "No ma'am. He is a decent family man". mcCain obama decent family man - Yahoo Video Search Results
Can you imagine Trump doing that?

Though I didn't know him and he was much older than I, it feels as though I've lost an old friend. Funny, because although I'm not familiar with his policy positions I know he was a member of the republican party. I think that is not part of this. It's like so much of what John McCain stood for stands despite anything. I am not a very good writer so I'll leave it at that. The world lost a hero. Rest in peace.

  3. He chose Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate.

Yes that was a big mistake, as he later acknowledged. Even worse, he was a Republican. Like the rest of us humans, he was flawed, but relatively speaking, one of the very best of us. BTW, I didn't vote for him. But he was a true mensch--a man of integrity and honor. Trump is a true unmensch, devoid of both.

  5. I liked John McCain. I am just being Devil's advocate, because I remember a few years ago...before his mini war with Donald Trump...when he couldn't do anything right and all anybody ever did was slag him. Now today he's an American hero. Good for him D. Trump came along I guess.

If you want to know what kind of man John McCain he was just ask him what he most regrets in life.

What he most regrets was breaking under years of torture as a captive POW in North Vietnam.

He has nothing to be ashamed of everyone has a breaking point.

How exactly was he a hero?

We all know what Operation Rolling Thunder was right?

We are used to targetted strikes in Iraq and Afghanistan and since.

But the two big bombing campaigns in the Vietnam War, the strategy was just bomb the crap out of everything, really kind of nasty

Anywhere up to 180,000 civilian deaths attributed just on Operation Rolling Thunder

I'm not the authority on heroes, admittedly, but one of the things that he did that I found heroic was when he was rescued from the POW camp he refused to leave until all the men who were captured before him were released.

Also, I think he was there (incarcerated as a POW in Vietnam) for about 5 years. As prison terms go, that's a long time!

I think too that in his new book he admits that our presence (the U.S.) in Iraq was a mistake because the intel was questionable as far as Saddam Hussein having weapons of mass destruction.

As a US Politician I know of, more than I know, McCain.
It seems that anyone who has walked the walk and not just talked the talk, spent a number of years in government where he openly admitted his flaws, mistakes and regrets, and is now receiving accolades of sympathy from all sides - shows the respect and regard he had in many quarters

It is sort of interesting how John Mccain has been embraced by Democrats and shunned by Republicans
    Strange times we live in

But that's very indicative of just how much the Republican party has changed in a few short years.

Trump isn't worth a pimple on John McCains ass. I disagreed with his political stances often, but the man always tried to work across the aisle to get things done. He admitted when he was wrong, in one case calling someone 25 years later to admit he was wrong about an issue. He spent 60 years serving his country in several capacities and his speech chastising his fellow legislators for , as he said "getting nothing done ," republicans especially, was right on.
What shows just how petty the present occupant of the white house is, ahhhhh--why discuss that useless wreck of a human. AS the old ones that actually knew how to govern die off-----what the hell is next?

He was bound and beaten every two hours, lost 50 pounds and eventually issued a statement the NV wanted him to say against the USA. He felt ashamed of it but said later---"one thing I learned is that everyone has their breaking point." Two broken arms, a broken leg, beaten with rifle butts, etc. Wonder how many would take that and NOT eventually break. He was confined an additional 2 years because he refused to leave unless those captured before him were released. I guess it's too bad he didn't have some bone spurs.

Referring to Pat Robertson and the religious right as "forces of evil" cost him politically but it earned my utmost respect. RIP senator.

Or more, as a married man, and bragged about groping women, presided over the most corrupt administration since Grant; used daily twtitter to spread division instead of unity in the country, separated over 2000 children, some toddlers, from their families, some have yet to be united; insulted John McCain who had more integrity and honor in his little finger than Trump could ever muster in his whole draft-dodging body; badmouthed the NATO alliance and insulted our European allies; openly sided with Putin against our own intelligence agencies;and threatens the rule of law by attacking the Mueller investigation.

What does that say about all other US presidents if a xenophobic misogynistic racist pig with Narcissistic Personality Disorder is the greatest of all-time
