Soul Brother Number One will be greatly missed. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6208615.stm A true LEGEND.
Sure..he will be missed... he was the true KING of soul... He was suffering from pneumonia and passed away at 1:45 a.m. (0645 GMT), on Christmas Day, at Emory Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta after being admitted there over the weekend, his agent, Frank Copsidas disclosed Tiger
What a news story to wake up to...I remember listening to my favorite track "It's A Man's World" while riding around with my friends, because it was on an Old School mix tape we had...He was an undeniable influence on all r&b music.
R.I.P " Along with Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan and a handful of others, Brown was one of the major musical influences of the past 50 years. At least one generation idolized him, and sometimes openly copied him. His rapid-footed dancing inspired Mick Jagger and Michael Jackson among others. Songs such as David Bowie's "Fame," Prince's "Kiss," George Clinton's "Atomic Dog" and Sly and the Family Stone's "Sing a Simple Song" were clearly based on Brown's rhythms and vocal style. If Brown's claim to the invention of soul can be challenged by fans of Ray Charles and Sam Cooke, then his rights to the genres of rap, disco and funk are beyond question. He was to rhythm and dance music what Dylan was to lyrics: the unchallenged popular innovator..." LINK Who knows what music would be like if it wasn't for him.
Hes the difference between bad and Super-bad! The Godfather of Soul, and an influence on all music and performers from the 1950s on. I love his early soul songs, and he gigged his entire life. There is no replacing a legend like James Brown. Not to mention he has one of the grooviest christmas albums ever, I am gonna miss him, but hes gone on to a bigger show. Straight ahead, James, Right on.
oh James, it's so sad - "feels like pouring water on a drowning man...." many tears have been, and will be, shed over your loss......but hey, party on with Otis and Jimi and Janis, baby! cheers to you, Godfather of Soul - you will be sorely missed
I'm surprised he lasted this long. I saw an interview with him where the interviewer would ask him serious questions and he would respond with lines from his songs, and eventually just started yelling OW and shit when she would ask him questions. Too much man you took too much, too much, too much.
