so, who do you think the 90's alt rock scene would have been ailing without?

    Blind Melon comes to mind...

From this list, I'll go with Janes Addiction. Beck with a close second.

aside from Beck & The Red Hot Chili Peppers, mainstream America wouldn't have a clue of whom the other guys are if Nirvana never existed.

not really. but if they did, so did A LOT of bands. they did borrow, admittedly, from the pixies and they were a huge influence on nirvana's music

they did, they had several strong influences...

but nirvana's commercial success restored a lotta faith in alt rock, especially for the music industry. Many of the 90's bands wouldn't have had much success if it wasn't for nirvana, they simply wouldn't have got the record deals.

wether yer like them or not, yer gotta admit this was an influence they couldn't have done without

Beck and Jane's are the only necessary artists up there.. the rest is either overrated or superfluous radio music

i admire cobain for his songwriting ability, but musically, besides some refreshing zeal and energy, they didn't give the world much new :)

i never knew that the pixies had so much of an influence on nirvana, then again i never really listened to enough nirvana to notice. Pixies are great :)

out of that list, i would have to say beck

the did not rip off the pixies....they were influenced by them, just like they were influenced by the vaselines......this stuff influenced the music they played just how anyone is influenced by any other band......

if you want to talk about rip offs lets talk about all of the nivanaesque bands that came out after them

not that nirvana was that great of a band, i'm just saying that they didn't rip off the pixies
