Okay I have a few questions about asking a girl to marry you....Some I've always thought about and haven't found the answer.

1.Say the girl dosen't want a diamond...So you pick out say...Saphire but her birthstone is Diamond..does this matter really?

    2.Would I need a ring?

3.Do you ask parents? If so...how

4.What if the parents say no?

    5.Any other info please :-D

This is all just my opinion so don't take what i say too seriously.

1.It wouldn't matter so long if she liked the sapphire or whatever other stone.

2.This would depend on what the girl is like. I personally wouldn't mind if i didn't get a ring but it would be nice to give her something to symbolise the proposal and show that you're serious about it.

3.Depends on what the girl and her parents are like. It's kind of a old fasioned thing so it wouldn't be necessary in most cases.

4.You should find out why they are against it and try to sort it out.

Are you thinking of asking someone to marry you?

Ask her. Maybe a true hippie would disdain items like jewelry, and would say it's just a way for a woman to show the world how much a man is willing to spend on her.

3.Do you ask parents? If so...how

Ah, the fine old days of yore, when a man asked his intended's father for permission to propose to her--and called the old guy "sir" when he did it.

But hopefully, the future in-laws like the man their daughter chooses. It's really the couple's choice when and how to tell the parents. Maybe together, maybe just the daughter with them.

    5.Any other info please

At age 17 you have a few years to make a plan about this!

I say take her around the shops and ask her which rings she likes, she will have to wear it for the rest of her life (with luck)

and at 17... you got years to get married man... chill out and focus on being a teenager, its loads of fun!
