i really plan on gettin dreads sometime soon, but i have a few questions for the idea before i do it.

    1. What length should i do them at? (my hair is at 8 1/2 inches right now)
    2. Proffesional or Non?
    3. What kinda of hair products i should use to wash them?

your hair length is long enough for backcombing. i would suggest going natural, though. i'm not sure what you meen by "professional" but anyone can make dreads. there's no point in spending several hundred dollars to have them put it and filled with wax. you and a few buddies can have them done in a day. use an all natural shampoo or soap bar. dr. bronners is a good choice.

    1) yeah thats how long my hair was when i started, might be hard if u plan on going the 'neglect' route
    2) professional dreads are a rip off and will prob involve hideous amounts of wax
    3) castile soaps or make your own mix (baking soda, lemon juice etc)

    good luck

Your hair is the perfect length for dreads.

I suggest backcombing if you want to see results right away. It'll take a long time but is worth it IMO. There's no need to go to a pro. Just do it yourself or with a good friend or two. Have a movie marathon while you do it. Great fun!

Any non-residue shampoo or soap will work for washing. Castile soaps are great. I personally use knotty boy dread shampoo bar. I like how it smells. Though next time I think I'm going to buy some dr. bronners. I used to use it and just found a place nearby that sells it. YAY!

    Good luck!
