MY father bought a piece of land in CA
and wants to digg holes and use his own soil...

the only issue that i have is that it was mentioned that the ground was so hard that you had to use a pic axe to digg there...
so im wondering if we might encounter drainage issues?....

i suggested that we use 30-40 gallon containers insted...
but he was worried someone would spot the plants in containers and steel them... and pleeded that we put the containers in the ground ...

witch still makes we worry about drainage problems

otherwise he wants to kind of hide the plants aswell but im somewhat worried about them reciving enough light...

maybe im worring too much about the light ...

Ya containers needs holes in the bottom like a plant pot would have. Coz there buried i'd dig a soak away under or have 5-6 inches of crocks or pea beach in bottom of containers also i'd run a hose or tube from your drainage medium up to the top thats open to the air this will equalize any pressure build up and ensure good drainage. (IMO Both the above would be idea if pos)
As for light ok they wont grow if getting blocked by other plants but a bright day with just 3 or 4 hours of direct sun light will do. The more direct light they get the more ya have to water even just north light and never getting direct sun shine will grow half decent mj if ya a good grower.

Also i'd treat every plant around your mj with a general bug killer spray or treatment just to be on the safe side.
    Good luck and stay safe.

"5-6 inches of crocks or pea beach"?????>D

There's a sticky at the top of this page where ranger danger details outdoor growing, although we don't need to guerrilla grow here anymore (that is on property we own of course). Whether special treatment of soil will be necessary depends on the soil yer growing in. The only time drainage is a problem that I've noticed is winter when the ground gets saturated with heavy rains, but ya wouldn't be growing outdoors anywho!>)

Full of and taking Hehe there's no getting anything past you naturalhi 10 out 10 for observation.
With the famous wet summers we get here on the sea of cheese drainage is a good idea.

they'll do better in the ground but if ya must use pots use the largest you can get (25gal minimum) and keep them shaded. it also helps if you paint them white...pots can get hot in the open sun and it's most important keeping the roots as cool as possible for maximum growth. bamboo, vitex (aka the chaste tree) and many fruit trees are good camouflage and as long as you tell no one and keep them well watered during the hot months you'll have a good chance of bringing in a crop to be proud of!

    good luck

as a soak away do you mean more rocks underneath the containers, cause otherwise i dunno how ide go about doing that..

Thanks s'sam some good pointers there but tell nobody is the best growing advice your ever likely to get.
Thats the ideas selectz just dig a bigger hole then your containers and fill the bottom with rocks or gravel. Any soak away will always work better if connected to the open air so hence the tube.

Yeah and be sure to add 5-6" of crocks, the animal matter is good fert, or 5-6' crocks to keep poachers away!>D

But seriously folks! Selectz, don't know where in Cali. you are but summers here are very dry, and we are still in a drought situation this year only about 60+% of normal in the 2 largest lakes in Nor. Cal. So don't think that drainage will be yer biggest problem;>P
