I’m looking for information related to hashish in Italy during the mid-1970s. For example, where did the hash likely come from – Morocco?

Background: I was on an aircraft carrier during two Mediterranean cruises in 1976 and 1977. A frequent port-o-call for the ship was Naples. Guys from the ship purchased slabs of the [usually] dark brownish, pliable hash, which was sold wrapped in tinfoil from Italian men in Naples. The hash was extremely abundant—unlike weed, which was seemingly non-existent in all Mediterranean ports-o-call. The hash had a distinctive nice taste, which wasn’t harsh; and the odor of smoking the hash was easily masked [on the ship] by a few lit cigarettes. The hash provided an uplifting-clean type of high.

P.S., I obviously could have posted this thread in any number of different forums, but I believe that some folks who use the Amsterdam forum are most likely able to provide an answer to my question.

    Cheers

I was always told "while in the gulf region" early 80's

was that most Morocco hash was blonde or red, since most of it was sieved.

while hash from the Himalaya's "Nepal, Afghanistan" is rubbed making it black.

Back in the day we could buy a kilo of Morocco for $350-$400

as stated by cadcruzer, if the hash was blond to light brown in color it was probably from Morrocco or Lebanon while darker is probably from nepal or afghanistan.

NOTE: "Red Morroccan and Red Lebanese" = normal Morroccan / Leb Blond hash with red Henna ink mixed into it.

I lived in Italy during the 70's and remember the pot being mediocre at best, hashish was more the norm and I was told it came from Morrocco. This is just one man's experience and it could have been that I didn't know where to go. I can also add that the Piazza Navona was a common place to find it. (the train station too but the seediness made it hardly worth the effort)
