i always see peeps with dreads (usuall freshly backcombed, sprayed with salt water, then waxed twice just to be extra sure) wearing bob marley rasta fly wear and the ethiopian colors everywhere. or i'll see people with the 'tuff gong' brand bob marley shirts, mugs, keychains, necklaces, dog leashes, ice picks, lawnmowers, potato chips, underwear, toaster ovens, etc... i wanna know why some people that get dreads become obsessed with having as much bob marley gear they can so they can show it off. of course not everybody but there's a lotta fake ass people out there. i wanna know why you do it, and what's the appeal of wearing ethiopian colors? especially white boys livin in the suburbs callin themselves 'razta' maybe its just me that has a problem with 'tuff gong' shit, cuz rita done sold bob's soul to white capitalist america. i'd never wear any of that shit. L O FUCKIN L!!!!!!! fool even has the africa tattoo voice your opinions:cheers2:
Hmm I am not sure about your question since I have no idea and don't do any of those things but I just wanted to say awesome signature.
um, well i wear rasta gear b/c im rasta not dread. though i don't buy a lot of stuff that has all three colors in a flag on it for the reasons you mentioned above (who really profits from it?) i just like to find clothing that incorporates the colors. the colors are not just Ithiopian they are part of the rasta flag as well. But, I'm sure they have overlapping significance. i think that asian guy's pic is hilarious and that it's overkill. though, race has nothing to do with rasta, np. if anyone is trully curious about rasta, they can always send me a message on here. i'm wearing my red/gold/green/black headband right now!
just because some rasta hate whites doesn't mean all rasta do. maybe you should research. i'm the one living the life, remember? rasta is a way of life. not a religion. but, a lot of rasta with disagree with my statement. just like a lot of christians would disagree with "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" since many christians hate gays. just an example. like i said. if anyone is interested in learning about the rasta lifestyle, message me.
you have to understand the basis of the philosophy. rastafarI has been diluted by people like bob marley and all that one love crap and commercial interests to make rastafarI seem appealing. look at howellites and garveyites and maroons and bobo ashanti. thats rastafarI. the movement was about social justice, rising against oppression, and vengeance for the white man's wickedness. all that hippy one love stuff came out after marley achieved commercial success. but its understandable cuz he was trying to change the rasta message to include the white man. rasta your god is dead.
i an i have no g-d. jah is within i an i. don't you see that rasta can be many things to many people just like any other belief or way of life? "The temple of the most high begins with the human body, which houses our life, essence of our existence. Africans are in bondage today because they approach spirituality through Religion provided by foreign invaders and conquerors. We must stop confusing religion and spirituality. Religion is a set of rules, regulations and rituals created by humans which were supposed to help people grow spiritually. Due to human imperfection religion has become corrupt, political, divisive and a tool for power struggle. Spirituality is not theology or ideology. It is simply a way of life, pure and original as was given by the Most High. Spirituality is a network linking us to the Most High, the universe and each other. As the essence of our existence it embodies our culture, true identity, nationhood and destiny. A people without a nation they can really call their own is a people without a soul. Africa is our nation and is in spiritual and physical bondage because her leaders are turning to outside forces for solutions to African problems when everything Africa needs is within her. When African righteous people come together, the world will come together. This is our divine destiny." This a exerpt from a speech that H.I.M. made to Ithiopia many many years ago that still applies today to everyone in the babylonian system.
Or not because IMHO it's religious credibility is right up there with mormonism and scientology. I think rastafarianism benefits quite well from people not knowing a great deal about it.
i don't worship anyone. i do value his teachings. he was a wise man. but, many rasta, like myself, only see him as that. a man. in my opinion he was a prophet like christ. and that's it. but, many rasta would disagree. it's quite a diverse believe system, just like any other.
i agree qith pypes as well. most religions are based on it's followers not doing their research. i never said i was religious or worshipped anything. i follow a set of beliefs about how one should live their life, and that's what rasta is for me and many others.
All I have to say is, religions and philosophies change over time. Just because one religion has its roots in something doesn't mean that it can't evolve into something different. Look at Christianity for Christ's sake... Started out with an old testament God who fucked up unbelievers by telling his "chosen people" to go to war, then becomes some peace & unconditional love kinda dude with a completely different personality. There's nothing wrong with people having their beliefs. I'm certainly no expert on Rastafari, and honestly I could really care less but I think NP that you need to remember that religion isn't a concrete never changing concept. Through time one religion or philosophy can take on a completely different meaning but still be called the same thing.
its only diverse because it's diluted. the original message has been twisted and distorted to fit personal agenda. this is how rasta has been infiltrated by white culture. its easy to say its not a race issue when you're the white that's appropriating the culture.
oh jeebus whites appropraite everything. kind like how blacks appropriated our god damn lily white jesus into their black haired monkey. right?
so you admit that your point on rastafari changing is invalid? and yea i agree that SOME religions change with time. you mentioned christians. many 'christians' are not christians at all. the message has been twisted for personal agenda ($$$$$). these people don't follow christ's words, they follow a pulpit. same with a lot of other religions. however, the rastafarI religion has been infiltrated by whites and it offends a lot of REAL rastas. ive got respect for the religion. a lot of respect, but not for fakers. :cheers2:
whatever, it seems you really weren't open to hearing why anyways. you have your opinion, and a common one. but, not all rasta are like the ones you've met or will meet. and besides, if rasta are the way you described they wouldn't talk to you in the first place.
