I have a question that; not to use a pun, but is simple. I have been studying taoism for a while now, as well as many other religions, but I have a question that no one has been able to answer. I thought I would add it in a few places where it would for sure be answered, because a lot religions and lifestyles deal with simplification to better your life as Rasta does.

How can I simplify my life?-where should I start?

I think to simplify your life, you should begin with meditation....

    That, and maybe cannabis.

It's illegal, but it can truley be a life-saver.

    I agree. Transcendental meditation especially.

After you get good at it, try it while high. But don't do it high before you're good at it. The point of transcendental meditation is to TRANSCEND your self, your being, your "ego" if you will, and become everything. To stop seeing through YOUR eyes and to simultaniously see through every section and corner of the universe.

A lot of meditation, especially while high, simply induces extreme relaxation, and the process that begins bodily sleep.

Perhaps you are trying to discriminate between the essential and the inessential. That is good. Many of the activities that engage so much human attantion are simply either a waste of time, or even negative in nature.

My advice would be to observe yourself as closely as possible, and to question your motivation when contemplating activity. Is it helpful to see this particular show on tv? do I really need new shoes? etc.

Its difficult to be more exact, since I kinow nothing of your circumstances or the complexity you wish to get out of.

Or in other words, speaking/acting out against something.

Ex. If I speak out against the Catholic church (which ... well, I do), then that makes me a blasphemer in the eyes of that church.

I mainly just don't want to be tied down by material possessions and petty problems. I need sort of a step-by-step guide to simplification.

Well, you most likley wont find it here. I know that most of us haven't found it yet. We're still looking for it, sweetheart.
I wish there was someone I could find that could help me also. I need some advice in this field.

I don't know that there is a step by step guide to simplifying things. It does seem to come down to a kind of difference between needs and wants. What do we need to survive, and to live a reasonable life? Only you can answer that, as it varies from person to person. But also, society is very complex, and puts all sorts of pressure on people. Even freinds want you to conform to a certain kind of ethos, which may involve all manner of complexity - having to dress in a certain way, use cetain language etc.

Where materiel possesions are concerned, a good idea can be to chuck away anything you haven't used for the last year, and to question one's motivation when buying new stuff.
But I'd also agree with previous posters who recommend some form of meditation, as the greatest tangle is often that in our own minds.

BlackBillBlake has got it all, you should follow his advice, wake up in the morning and ask yourself what you really wanna do, why do we do what we do every day? Give true meaning to your life, choose your way :)

or perhaps you should just start at the deep end. Stop doing something you're used to doing, because it will make it easier for you to give up the smaller things. e.g. Sell your tv.. (or dont watch it if it's not yours to sell) spend less time on the computer... I've started to limit myself to so many hours a week because I find that it can be quite addictive. Start reading instead, or something, I find writing and singing is cool.. and it's simple fun!

Spend more time with your family, or out with nature so you learn to love the simple things that you perhaps take for granted... like if you listen to your walkman while out.. just listen to the surroundings, slowly you'll see you dont need those things anymore, so you can sell them, or give them away or something. ok I'm sleepy now, I'll think of more tomorrow :)

    Blessings Sistren

InI sight this thread and feel yuh have some truth in you that truly makes InI feel warmth in the I. Look to Jah, and not only focus, but loose said focus, and truly explore yuh self, sight the I in I and from there seek the I and I.

InI believe that ALL humans sight truth in Jah and deep in themselves, find love for Jah, and HIM Haile Selassie taught us all of more goodness, and Jah love, sight true love sistren, and look to Jah and be at peace.

    Blessings

sleeping jiva & hess are both right - the way to go is spiritualize! There are various ways into that.....and thats the way to rise above the over-complicated materiel problems we face :)
