question about sponsors

ok, so this didnt get a response after 15 views in the user support forum, as things often seem to be overlooked there, so i'll put it up for discussion here, where it's relevant. personally i'm not angry or upset in the least, i just find it odd that we aren't allowed to discuss sources yet one company we put banners up for. even if skip ignores this, maybe ellis has an answer? im kind of confused....

ok skip, i'm just curious as to why we now have the archaic herbs banner in the forums? we used to have a really shady "herbal ecstacy" thing which was removed for a number of reasons. while not necessarily upfront about what their products really were and did, and while it was a rip off, afaik most of their products weren't actually dangerous or illegal.

this site, however, offers datura, not to mention a number of plants illegal for most of the people frequenting the forums. true, people aren't generally prosecuted for possession of ephedrine or DMT containing plants or mescaline bearing cacti other than peyote, but that doesnt mean its not possible and it doesnt mean these plants are legal. as i'm sure you're aware datura is not only psychoactive, but a deadly poisonous plant. the site also offers the fixins to whip up a batch of one of the most mind blowing psychedelics known, ayahuasca. why the sudden change of policy? i dont remember specifics before the herbal ecstacy stuff was gotten rid of, but for a good while now its been against forum rules to offer sources of such materials in our posts, yet now its at the top of the (often unrelated) pages.

i'm all for people being allowed to use these things, and i'm all for open discussion of such matters. but we have a LOT of young kids in the psychedelics/marijuana forums, as well as a lot of less than bright members. i just dont want to see someone get hurt or misusing these things.

so are we now allowed to share sources openly in our posts, or is it just an exception for you to advertise archaic herbs so that the site gets more money? are we allowed to share sources as long as the source is archaic herbs? this just doesnt make sense to me at all. you and ellis used to be strict about the no-sources policy, saying that it would lead to irresponsible use and possibly increased attention paid to exotic or uncommon psychoactives such as ayahuasca, salvia, and mescaline cacti. certainly offering some bunk herbal ecstacy, while not moral, is less harmful in general than offering datura, and less likely to cause legal problems with legitamite psychedelics such as peruvian torch. the only thing on that site thats illegal in the us that they dont ship to the us is khat. they readily ship things like DMT plants and mescaline cacti here and even link to pages like erowid to tell people how to use them as drugs.

obviously its up to you, its your site and it needs to be funded one way or another. i can't say its wrong, it just seems to go in the face of all previous, and current, policy. i'm just really at a loss here, i've got no idea why we post this banner yet wont let people mention the names of other sources. furthermore as i'm sure you remember there were instances of news reports that our forums will sell drugs to members, or link to sites that do. at the time such claims were unfounded and libelous...now, however, we DO link to sites that sell people drugs.

again, this is not an attack or anything, i can't tell you what to do and dont really care that its there in the abstract, i just think its a little odd considering everything i've just brought up...

i realize that, but at the same time that we say we shouldnt give out sources on where to get drugs, these forums are flat out showing people where to get drugs through the banners....

i understand why we shouldnt discuss sources, and i support that. i'm kinda more curious to find outexactly why we advertise for one, rather than trying to get us the right to discuss sources in an open forum. i think its somewhat foolish to post banners for such things, but then its not my site.

i think so. i had some problems with payment for an order i placed, but it was my fault. i ended up cancelling the order and were goodnatured about it. so i've never done business with them but have no reason to believe they're anything but professional.

FWIW, I don't like the banner ad either.

This is only a tiny bit better than the one that Skip used to run for "Weeeed", one of those bullshit fake pot products.

Obviously, it's Skip's decision, but I would think that he could find better sponsors than that....

i dont have a *HUGE* problem with an "ethnobotanical" supplier as a sponsor, but i'd want something a little more tactful than them.

I love the "disclaimer" on the front page stating that they don't sell anything for human consumption, but just about every product gives a "suggested dosage"!

while i think they're probably good with their customers, they just aren't tactful, and i dont think it's an entirely ethical way to market their products by linking to erowid...
