Hey I used to browse the hipforums alot about a year ago and stopped and decided to see whatsup. Anyways I just got a job so I can afford all the right setup I need. My space is pretty limited. Im choosing my closet in my room because its the most secure and i can control the temps better. Its only like 2 maybe 2 and a half feet in depth, about 6 feet in height (i can move the shelf and hanging pole to make it about 8 feet) but i dont really want to because its connected and we rent our place. about five feet accross. I dont know how many plants ill have but I want enough light to be able to dank up at least 6 plants?, dont really know if i have the room though. Anyways What kind of wattage you think ill need? I was thinking 1000 (HPS) just because I want some really beautiful buds, but could go down to 600 or 400 if needed. I dont want to pay that much for a lighting system, so you think 400W would be enough? I could go down to 4 plants if I had to use 400 but could it support 6? Will heat be a problem knowing I only have 6 feet of hieght? Anyways thanks for taking the time to read this thread even though this topic has been posted probably a million and one times. HMM cant really think of anything else if I left out any important details let me know and ill clarify. But I hope everyone has good luck with their grows becuase I know ill appreciate some good luck. Peace

You would be best served using a 430 son agro hps in a 2 x 2 x 3 area of that closet giving you 61 watts per sqft..You will run into major heat probs with a 600 or 10000.A intake and exhaust is recommended to replace/remove heat.

I think id be able to control heating from a 600, actually the closet is the same heigh and depth but twice as wide but the other side is used up for cloths etc. So air can circulate through there. Ill either have a reflecter with in/out circulation or just set up a few fans, or both. Hmm not getting much responses. Oh well I can figure it out myself its not hard to figure out what i need im just busy and thought id get someone elses opinions. Thanks

I decided on a 600W electronic switchable ballast, no noise and it says it uses 28% less energy ussage. And im debating weather or not to use a cooling hood, a normal hood, or just a "flap" that directs the light downwards not as good as a hood though, their just cheap. I dont think ventalation will be a problem considering im only using up half of the closet space, and my closet takes up my whole 12 or so foot long wall. Another thing im contemplating is weather or not to use a DWC system, Im just not sure how much a 6-9 plant system will cost. Are the air pumps generally expensive? What are some air pumps you guys are using, are they just fishtank airpumps? And should I have each pot have its own system(which is what im thinking ill do), or should i combine them and have 3-5 in a rubbermaid container? I saw a pic of a 5 pot rubbermaid system and the plants were really bunched together and they didnt look very healthy. So If you guys could please help me out thanks, peace.

Well I'm growing 6 plants using a General Hydroponics Ecogrower (http://genhydro.com $189.95) inside of a 2.5'x2.5'x6' space. I considered higher wattages, but if you look at the amount of lumens you'll be able to provide the plants while not burning them, then a 400-430 watt is ideal. I can get my 400 watt HPS 8-10" above my young'ns safely and provide all 6 with more than enough light. Total, my current setup cost about $360 and is performing outstandingly. I think high watt setups are only appropriate in large, well ventilated rooms with light movers. In a small garden, you'll be much more efficient with low watts. Remember, you should harvest at least .5 gr of quality DRIED bud for each watt. If you don't think your 6 plants will harvest 500 gr in your target schedule, then you don't want 1000 watts.

Actually the breakdown on lumens per watt for hps bulbs are a 430=134.8 lumens per watt,600=165 lumens per watt, and a 1000=160 lumens per watt. This is based on higher output bulbs with a 58,000 lumen 430,a 99,000 lumen 600,and a 160,000 lumen 100 watt bulb.As you can see the 600 wins hands down with no heat probs while using air cooled hoods and proper ventilation. With another

If ya know what your doing, one can get 1+ grams per watt regardless of light size. The choice is yours.
