Qualities Of The Ideal Society/person?

So, I don't know if this is already a topic or not, but I thought I'd ask this question because I think about it all the time.

In your opinion, what would be the qualities of the ideal society and/or person? Do you think your idea of the ideal society is feasible? How would you make it happen?

Can't wait to hear what you guys have to say! I'm working on writing out my thoughts right now

 

Good question Laci.

Some qualities of my ideal society would be:

Tolerance
Respect
Environmental Sustainability
Social Care
Employment Rights
Health Care
Ethical Trade and Investment Policies
Education
Equal Rights
Human Rights

Some of those are present to a greater or lesser degree in some societies,
obviously I'm not going to say I can personally bring about the perfect society,
but by our actions (or lack of them) we are judged.

 

mindfulness and the awareness that everything we do, statistically contributes to the kind of world, every last one of us, each in our own individual way, must then experience living in.

to be more concerned with not making others feel bad,
then with what others think of them as a person.

to really look and see the world around them,
not just their own social interactions,
but every part of the natural universe
and the artifacts and infrastructure we add to it
and all the beauty there can be in that
and how to prevent and avoid
making any part of it
less then the greatest wonder it might be.

a person who does not put their own ego
ahead of a world
that could gratify everyone

a person who sees in nature
not a threat
but the wonder and happiness of diversity

who recognizes a universe
not limited by their own understanding
nor by anyone else's

a person who sees everything in universal terms
rather then from a personal, or even human centric, perspective.

a person who knows where the air they breathe COMES FROM

a person who looks at how water, land and air interact

a person who would rather walk to the grocery store, or ride a bus
then to drive to a fitness center

a person who rejects neither neither love nor science, engineering nor art,
who does not seperate this things
who excludes none of them
from understanding the experience of living
nor from anything living experiences

 

A large group of unassuming people who "live and let live." For me this would extend to both people, animals, and the environment.

 

The first thing that always comes to mind when I consider ideas like that is: the massive size of the population and our complex diversity.

My highest value is Honesty.
Then Fairness.
And Charity (which is not only a financial matter).
Equality (which does not mean LGBTQ).
Justice (No Justice, No Peace).
Respect (no more socially acceptable verbal abuses, please .. it is the single most destructive force in this world).
Integrity.
Understanding.
Compassion.
Humanitarianism.

A world that can master 911 emergency response.

A world whose helping hands aren't hurtful and destructive.

A world that owes, not owns, its people.

A people who owe, not own, the world.

ideal person? i dunno, it's hard to just sit here and list all of my qualities in one post...

 

You guys have such lovely perspectives on this! I really enjoyed reading all your answers.

Personally, I feel like in the ideal society...
-Treat others the way you'd want to be treated
-Live and let live
-Avoid doing things that would harm the well-being of yourself (you have a significant purpose in this world, we all do!) or others
-Humans would coexist peacefully with the non-human animals and plants (let's just say other beings) that reside beside us on this earth
-Equality (LGBTQP, race, gender, religion, financial status, etc)
-No currency, we'd all just give and take only what we need
-Not only tolerating, but understanding and accepting the diversity around us
-Environmental sustainability

I could go on, but that's a very short list. As far as the perfect citizen in that society:
-Respectful, tolerant, understanding, and accepting of the diversity around us
-Followed the aforementioned "moral code" of sorts
-Coexist (live and let live)
-Vegan
-Serves the world with volunteer/charity work

I've attached a picture I really like, not because it's specifically about anarchy, but what they say about helping others without feeling "obligated" to by the law/society.

 

I think if everyone had empathy, not only for mankind but for animals and the planet we all share, everything else would fall into place. I think people who lack empathy are basically shitting on the world and making it difficult for the many good people who care about things outside of themselves.

 

I absolutely LOVE this and find it very accurate. Just today I was riding home with a girl I don't know all too well, and I brought up that a boy from our school had brought a gun to school with intent to shoot himself. I expressed how outrageous it was that this kid could bring a gun to school for 6 hours and NO ONE KNEW, to which she said, "I honestly don't even care if he shot himself or shot everyone else in this school. The world would be a better place without them." I was speechless. I, too, find myself frustrated and hopeless for humanity, but not enough that I'd encourage suicide or mass-murder. It made me SICK to think how cold of a heart she must have to think that way....

If only we all shared love for one another, had empathy for one another, genuinely CARED for everyone around us. I wonder how I can attempt to make those around me more empathetic and encourage them to share a little love for one another.

How did you find out about it? Did anybody help him?

 

I found out about it because I came home and my mom told me it was all over the news, and the school had called home. Evidently the boy brought the gun to school and was intended to shoot himself in the bathroom after school. It was 6th period (we have 7 periods a day), and a student saw the gun in his backpack and told a teacher. A teacher told the principal, and the boy was called down to the guidance office where they talked to him. He told them he was planning suicide, gave them the details, and he was taken to a psychiatric care center, last I heard.

Here's an article about it, but it's honestly not accurate to the best of my knowledge, and I've heard that from several people.

 

The article said a teacher noticed he was emotionally distressed. He had to have been distressed for a long time if he had a gun.
Poor kid. I hope they don't force drug him.

 

He had a lot going on- bad family life, got caught with drugs a few times, but always a very quiet kid, good looking too. I never expected this out of him..
Hopefully he'll take the time in the psychiatric center to think about things and set himself on a better path, but especially get the help he really needs. It's too bad when your pain outweighs your coping resources and it results in suicide....sad, sad, sad.

 

All the more reason to not drug him up. I loathe psychiatry. He doesn't need psych drugs, he needs quality of life.

 

Ideal person is someone who pays cash for everything....

Its very hard, pretty ideal though. Cause it means people live for what they can pay for.

an ideal society asks no more of its members then it compensates them for its existence.

It seems to me that toleration is often only granted to people who are in agreeance with eachother, while actually one really starts to tolerate people or actions when those do not agree with your own. It is no art to tolerate people and actions you already accept This is what is a key point in my ideal society: when people grant other people things they would not wish for themselves society becomes better. Of course the exception of this would be things that seriously infringe on other peoples rights and quality of life, so the don't do things to others that you wouldn't like remains to be important as well!
