So, for the first time in my life, I have to put together an art portfolio. For this, I have to turn into a college board, and after they review my portofolio (and hopefully like it) I get college credit so I have to take fewer classes once I actaully get to college. (Planning on being a music education major, with a minor in art) I've never done this before, so I'm a wee bit lost... My portfolio has to contain 30-40 different pieces with 5 different kinds of media. I plan on doing drawings, paintings, jewelry work (which uses metal as a form of media), ceramics, digital photography, and printmaking. I already have at least one or two pieces for each form of media, so I'm not worried about fitting the requirements, my main problem is trying to figure out how to present everything, and what to write about each piece (I have to write a paragraph about each piece when I turn it in). I came across this problem when I was writing about a bowl I'd made, and I realized that all I basically had to say about it was that the reason glaze was splattered all over it was that I was angry with my boyfriend and this just happened to be the best form of anger management I had avaliable. But it's actaully the best looking ceramics piece I have, so I want to include it, I just dont' think the story behind it sounds that great... Does anyone have advice for me, someone who's done this before? About how to present everything, how to organize it, what to say about the pieces, ect? Also, do you think it's better to focus on one form of media (which in my case would be metals work) and just do a few pieces in each other media? I dont' want to become a jack of all trades but a master of none, I could easily turn in 20 metal pieces and two or three of the others, but do you think this would be a wise idea? Help! :banghead:
