What got you into punk? Pretty stupid question obviously since I know most of them are going to be the same ole.. Sex Pistols, The Clash, and Ramones. I don't even consider Ramones punk... I don't know what to call the Ramones. But I'm talking about bands you started listening to after you got past the mainstream punk shit... the other stuff... For me my favorites are probably 1. Crack Rock Steady (Star Fucking Hipsters, Leftover Crack, Choking Victim) 2. The Adicts (Love the Clockwork Orange theme) 3. Bad Brains 4. Morning Glory 5. No Cash Those are my top five... Just was wondering... ya know? And now I'm thinking "Whatz the fuck did I just type?" Let me add more 6. Circle Jerks 7. Black Flag 8. The Germs 9. 999 10. UK Subs 11. The Exploited (How could I forget them in my original list!?) 12. Sham 69 13. The Descendents 14. Dead Milkmen 15. Chaos UK 16. Crass 17. Anti Flag 18. INDK 19. Reagan Youth
I used to drink everyday at a punk bar in the Lower East Side of New York City. Then I roomed with one in The Bronx. CAN, The Germs, Sonic Youth, etc.
Well no... I wouldn't count them as punk.... I mean they're good bands but they don't really fit the genre... But I still like Dino, Mudhoney, and Ramones....
I find the Ramones to be closer to garage rock than punk, myself; but they sorta came before the current idea of punk was fully formed, so who are we to change it? Anyways, The Offspring's Smash got me into punk when I was just a tot and my brother was playing it all the time.

As if I forgot! The Misfits, I love them! AFI is good too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MDOKVSN_YM"]YouTube - the misfits- hybrid moments
I don't like AFI... I guess you can call the Misfits punk... I myself always thought of them as Psychobilly.
Okay, I confess. When I was younger and when I first started playing guitar I was wayyyyy into Blink-182. I used to play their songs over and over. Fact- This was the first song I ever got high to. My cat, who was my best and greatest friend ever, stole a brownie from my brother and we ate it. I played along to this song and got real high. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZeXQ0exDMQ"]YouTube - blink - 182 anthem
Me too! He's also the reason why I got my lip pierced (which I no longer have) at 14. To be honest though, Blink 182 was the reason I got laid a lot throughout high school. I used to play their songs every single night.
The Dolls were a big influence on UK punk, as were Dr. Feelgood. But - speaking as someone who was there in 1977 - it was really all over by 1980... the initial rush of energy and ideas [the ideas were very important] inevitably got diluted and rules - rules ! - about how to be punk started to be applied - look like this, sing about that. So there was still something called Punk, but it was quite far removed from the original idea. Just another label now... sad, but seemingly the way of things... Some of the bands that were really enthusing people back then, but seem to have been forgotton a bit...
