the very idea of pugs depress me; when breeders competed with them a while ago the more squashed the nose the better, luckily I think the rules have been changed, but more and more puppies were being born then dying straight after because they couldn't breath through their own squashed faces. They are one example of how things can go wrong when we start messing with nature. of course dogs as we know them wouldn't exsist without selective breeding, and the wide range of beatiful breeds is mainly down to humans, but when I see I pug i can't help feeling sorry for it. and i personally would never call one pretty... as for pets they're meant to be quite temperamental and snappy, but seeing as I've never owned one I wouldn't know whether that was true or not. whatever you decide i'm sure you'll end up with a good pet, you can't really go that wrong with a dog :)

Hmmm....I guess I should do some more research into the kinds of respitory problems that can occur with these dogs. To be honest I never really thought about that much....so I am glad you guys mentioned it.:) How sad that people would breed them on purpose to have such flat faces that would give them problems later on....I dont really know to much about breeds and their historys....somthing to start looking into. I want one because from what I have heard (besides being so darn cute) they are pretty chill and loving dogs and of course they are small enough for my place... I am just drawn to pugs.I will only be getting one if there is one available at a shelter. I'm not going to go to a breeder. Thanks for the replys....I look foward to hearing some stories about owning a pug if anyone has one:)

Nope never owned a pug, or any animal for that matter. Cared for a few though, but as I say not a pug.

I love their little faces, and did consider adopting one but it didn't happen because our lifestyle isn't very dog friendly. We got a rabbit instead.

I had a pug and never had any problems. She was the great! It was kinda hard to house train here when she was a puppy compaired to the other dogs I've had. She was really hyper and chewed a lot when she was a puppy but she grew out of that. If you monitor how much you feed them they won't get that fat (same as any dog). My husband once had a Silky Terrier and it was always eating and it was HUGE. Anyway, I would highly recommend a pug.
