There have been many a protest songs over the years, but some voices are heard louder than others. So, I ask you what is your protest song, which one will be cranked as you march with a raised fist! Mines got to be War Pigs - Black Sabbath or Killing in the Name of - RATM.
I haven't really had an interest in the antiwar songs like I used to have, but I did just listen Fixin' To Die today. That one's great.. "Self Evident" by Ani Difranco is awesome. "Blowin' in the Wind" by Bob... Donovan has a good one, but I don't remember the name of it John Lennon's got one on Imagine... The Doors' "Unknown Soldier" is really cool too.... ahaha I don't know, there's a lot
If it's the same "Whale Song" I'm thinking of, I believe Country Joe & The Fish first recorded that on Electric Music for the Mind and Body or whatever it's called..
yea, ur prolly right, i was jus listenin to pearl jam last night and their version is pretty damn good
blowin in the wind is considered by alot to be the greatest protest song ever. But dylan has some other amazing ones check out his album "the times they are a-chaning". Its an album with almost all the songs being protest songs. One of my favorite protest songs by him is "masters of war", i think its off of the freewheeelin album. CHeck that song out though it applies so well to todays situation.
g.maguire=eve of destruction / bob dylan=masters of war / john lennon=give peace a chance / richie havens=freedom / bob marley=redemption songs........./peace
I Ain't Marching Anymore by Phil Ochs We Almost Lost Detroit by Gil Scott-Heron Teach Your Children by Crosby, Stills & Nash Where Have All The Flowers Gone by The Kingston Trio Legalize It by Peter Tosh Ohio by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Get Up Stand Up by Bob Marley
r u sure where have all the flowers gone is by the kingston trio? its definately not by peter paul and mary, but i thought it was by pete seeger, but i may be wrong. Speaking of pete, "last night i had the strangest dream" is a fucking awesome protest song.
Donovan did a few good protest songs, he did cover Buffy Sainte-Marie's Universal Soldier, but a couple of my other favourites are The War Drags On, to Susan on the West Coast waiting and especially The Ballad of a Crystal Man... "For seagull I don't want your wings, I don't want your freedom in a lie..."
