A video that discusses lock security. The video shows how easy it is to defeat a common lock using the bump method. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpH_t0u5Ybg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiJAFcD8lbw Thought I would post it because its funny a/f But seriously, you can kick down a front door with a deadlock and chain with 2-3 kicks. Nobody is a 'professional house burglar' lol its way to risky to do too often and like, don't you have guns? If you have something that people want, like lets say for the sake of argument a 20 million dollar blood diamond. Then you should buy a real big dog. Motherfuckers can make C-4 out of bleach nowadays, a bump-key-proof lock aint gonna stop someone if they want it bad enough.
Scottish hip hop Loch Bumping To be the man thats walks one thou-sands miles before his nuts get raw - aw -aw
Someone with high value diamonds should put them in a safe at a high security bank. But someone else could use C-4 explosives to break into a military base, commandeer a tank, run it through the wall of the bank, and use a tactical nuclear warhead to breach the safe. So really, no one should be making any effort to understand and improve security measures, because someone is going to breach the security anyway if they want to enough.
Maybe you kick like a boss. I can't. But I am a tool-using human - a properly aimed heavy sledge should make short work of just about any door that doesn't have a reinforced bar or something across it. Bumping or picking does have tho obvious advantage of not leaving damage, depending on what your reason/intention is - especially if it's your own lock - you don't want to ruin expensive crap to get to your own stuff, if you have a key mishap. And yeah, there absolutely are professional thieves - cat burglars are probably the majority of the home invasion types who don't die or get caught, though. They're not bumping your lock, they're slipping through your upstairs window while you're eating dinner and making your insurance company think you're committing fraud. *edit* that's pretty cool, I'm going to have to make some of those - as buying them seems like a dumb idea.
You just gotta kick the doorknob, people never think of that. Your only dealing with about 2 inches of mold and door frame, which is a pretty weak material Cat burglars, I never really thought of them like that lol now that you point it out they seem kind of legendary. But idk, im not worried about someone like that; im upper lowerclass. I supppose its up to how rich you are.
how much good a lock does obviously depends on the nature of the door and its frame. the best security is a culture in with people respect each other's privacy. the point of a lock is not to make unwanted entry impossibly, but rather to slow it down and frustrate it long enough for the miscreant to consider looking for an easier target. like everything else, we live in a statistical universe.
Every time I see this thread, for a moment I imagine someone complaining about some sort of problem with dreadlocks on public transit, or something like that.
