As an american citizen I have a right to property. Meaning I own it. If I pay my mortgage off, or buy it straight up with my own cash I own it. I should not have to pay money to continue to own something I already own. Who else agrees with me?

Try it. I'm in that situation. They will flat out take my property. I've been here almost 29 years...mortgage paid...but if I miss property taxes they can take it all...it's like you rent the land. Fuckers.

Taxation without representation. It's all government coerced theft.

I feel for you, but since corporations barely pay tax, I guess it's up to poor saps like yourself to keep the Pentagon economy afloat.

I think I read something about that before, a man ripped the foundation from his house, and then he turned it into a trailer and moved it somewhere. Its actually kinda why I like trailers as chester said in the fairly odd parents

THE GOVERNMENT CAN'T TAKE YOUR HOUSE AWAY IF ITS ON WHEELS

You never own your house and you never get shed of the government. The only thing free is the air we breathe. And they're fucking that that up too. If anyone thinks they are prohibited from doing whatever they want--and that may be true short term--think again--because long term they eventually get done what they want done by passing a law or changing one. The irony of trying to live off the grid is that you pretty much have to work ON the grid to get money for land. Oops--taxes again.

Edit: Maybe the last real place of freedom is on a paid-for sailboat.

But then they could search it without a warrant. Houseboats are not protected from unwarranted searches

Yes. With a boat you get a sticker.

With a car you get a tag.

With a house you get nothing.

But yes, you have to pay taxes owning a boat.

You pay property taxes, because you technically don't own the land. The government owns it, you do rent it. This dates back to the feudal land system, wherein you "bought" the land from the feudal lord, and then paid rent to continue to own it. This practice was brought over from Europe when the Americas were colonized.

Most land purchased are 'fee simple' or 'joint tenancy'. A few locales will allow allodial title, which is title free of any superior landlord. Wikipedia has good information on it.

Unfortunately, this same thing applies to many things that you 'own'. Your automobile, and anything else you pay an ongoing fee or tax on is ultimately owned by the government. This is why virtually everything you have can be seized through eminent domain in the US, or by the crown.

This sucks ass, royally, but there really isn't a lot you can do about it.

Unless you live in a state that has no property tax, we have a few here

If property taxes were federal I would have a problem with it. As it is they are a pain in the ass but they go towards county roads, bridges, maintenance, fire crews and county government graft...
