Pro wrestling announcer fired after racist joke

A quick peak at his Twitter showed me this has already divided into the normal 2 opinions in Ameirca. One side "it's funny don't be so sensitive" the other "no, that's a racist joke". I remember this guy calling the action when I was a little kid. He also apparently made this same joke on air in the 90's and did not get fired so I guess times really are changing


Following racist remarks on NWA Powerrr, Jim Cornette resigned from the promotion

During a match between NWA Champion Nick Aldis and Trevor Murdoch on the Tuesday, November 19 episode of NWA Powerrr, Cornette made the following remark:

"Trevor Murdoch is mad, bad and dangerous. He's the only man I know that can strap a bucket of fried chicken on his back and ride a motor scooter across Ethiopia."

The episode was removed from the promotion's YouTube channel before being re-uploaded with the remark edited out, but you can listen to Cornette's comment below.

I don't even think the joke is racist tbh. He hasn't picked on anyone he's only made a comment about a country and well, I've never known land to be racist. The implications of the joke are that Ethiopians appear to be underfed, which isn't a racist observation either.

 

Fuck racist humor. Get serious. The jokes on them. African Americans are beautiful people with rich and vibrant culture. They are unfortunately marginalized by society, demonized by the police/media, and overworked and under-hired. And it's a fucking sad state of affairs when comedy takes after them or other races and ethnicities and cultures.


@Irminsul, you know better! I can't believe it. You need to understand Ethiopians a little bit better than making these sorts of jokes. In my opinion, it's inappropriate and uncalled for. That's my opinion. I'm entitled to it.


This is just bull****. Taken lightly, these insults to our intelligence and to our friends and values are allowed to continue. Why do you stand for it? I try to protect our unity, persevere, and instill a sense of solidarity.

Instead we get scolded for being sensitive.

Humour is very subjective to an individual audience. While you might see them as racist I certainly don't. I see them as too dumb and ignorant to be blatantly racist. You asking me to understand Ethiopians better is exactly what makes those jokes funny to me, because they aren't accurate, that's the joke and I don't find stereotyping to be racist. If stereotyping was racist then it wouldn't be called stereotyping it would be called racism.

 

Yes, it's so bad it's kind of funny. I think he was referring more to the food aspect. People don't eat in Africa so they would chase him on the bike. Not the American stereotype that black people like chicken. Odd anyway since everyone eats chicken.

Yeah but if you go calling an indigenous person an ape or a monkey it's a racist slur on their skin colour and their ancestory. We have the same issue with idiots calling out some indigenous AFL players these insulting disgusting racist comments.

so is ethiopia not famous for having starving people anymore? i don't see how you can call that fact racist, it's not like he's saying the ethiopian race is gluttonous or anything.

it's kind of annoying how he keeps trying to bait hipforumers into saying racist things, but i wouldn't consider that a disgusting thing he's going through.

There's an Ethiopian Cuisine resteraunt a few doors down from our home pool venue and every time we play there without fail, one of my team mates says "Ethiopian? What the hell do they have to eat?" and it's become this 3 year running saying that we all just wait for it, just for a lol because he says it the exact same way every time likes he's never said it.

 

is he though? i mostly just see him post examples of things that have nothing to do with racism, then ask why people are so racist.
