IF you go to a Dr because you have hepc and tell him how you contracted it or maybe you had a od from an RC and shared why with a Dr. who can read your records? Can certain employers check them? Or just Drs? Just wondering because the past can definitely haunt you.
Are you asking if a potential employer can look at your medical files? If that's what you're asking, no. I'm pretty certain that that's illegal, being that it's confidential information.
Very true. As I understand it, (i could be wrong) at least in the US, there is HIPPA, which is supposed to safeguard specific notes and personal information. I believe that for legitimate reasons and legitimate people/organizations, they can have access to general info like, "patient complained of pain in ankle" and "patient was diagnosed with sprained ankle from twisting". Details of how you twisted it, drugs / treatment prescribed, etc, aren't supposed to be made available except to another doctor treating you. Now if I'm correct in all that, that doesn't mean that your info is safe. Unauthorized access to data happens all day, everyday. Doctor/patient confidentiality is only as strong as the system, and we all know how strong that is.
if you find that your confidential medical records have been put into the wrong hands, you can take them to court. And even so, an employer isn't allowed to just not hire you because of something that would be on your medical records. There are laws against that.
This is quite an interesting topic. I believe they marked my medical record with "drug abuse" diagnosis in the ER because they find benzodiazepines and marijuana in my system during blood test. I have thought about this before but have been unable to find information of whether they [employers] can find it or not. I'm just waiting for the day when I'll be in a job interview and they say, "I see here that you were diagnosed with drug abuse [insert # of] years ago, mind telling me about that?"
