prejudice against hippies

hello there ,

does any body else out there have problems with yobs , chavs and other such people.
i have been beaten 14 times now , because i have long hair , dress differently to a lot of people and openley dislike the emo and punk way of thinking , a long with a pure hate of all things chav .(even thoug people are entiled to thier own opinions and choice of lifestyle)


is there any one who has been the victim of prejudice against hippies.

No i don't beat 'hippies' up, but i can understand the mentality .. pick on the one that is 'different' .. Did you get beat up by bullies at school.. thats kinda different .. (no less serious obviosly)... bullies at school pick on anything and everything, you just happen to fall into that 'hippie' tag..i dunno.

 

I've experienced none at all! But then I guess some people are lucky to live in places where its not an issue! I live in the middle of nowhere in Mid Wales where everything is so relaxed. It just a shame that there are other places who suffer this form of hatred and stuff.

 

I used to get beaten up like every day for wearing a Nirvana jumper. I dont even have long hair. I used to get beaten up by the Rude Boys all the time. I get insults sometimes and dirty looks by the Chavs but not that much compared to the Rude Boys.

 

Wow you're from Hereford too. There is quite a small 'alternative' scene here but I've never really had any problems with 'chavs' or whatever, they seem to like me for some reason. But yeah I do have friends who have experienced bullying and stuff from them because of their appearance.

Don't take it personally. Chavs are usually prejudiced against everyone. However, hippies are an easy target, because they're soft and have girly hair.

Saying that, I don't seem to have a problem with Chavs. I even got handed a spliff in the street by one. It was stinky soapbar, but the thought was there.

Just remember you're a hippy. That means you accept all life as it is. People are their culture until they can see a way out, and most people never do. Growing up in a grey land where all you can dream of is a couple of sovvies and a bird is a miserable existence really. People react to their misery in so many blind ways, and can't really be blamed for it...

 

i use to get beat up in junior high by preppies. i don't know why probably to make me feel that they were better than me and i got spit on in highschool cause i had my fro.

 

This is a fact of life..if your weak you get stepped on.

So dress and act however you like but be strong and youll be cool.
Its all a game of cat and mouse.

Many years ago (like 1982) I got picked on for growing my hair long and looking like a hippy. A year or so before that I was picked on for being into ska/2tone and wearing dogtooth and a green bomber jacket.

Some people will pick on anything for any reason at all ... nothing to do with anything apart from them being insecure fucked up cunts who follow the rest of their dimwitted flock.

Being into hippy stuff was totally unfashionable and some people saw it as an excuse to give me a hard time. The ironic thing is that a few years later long hair was fashionable again (so was acid) and all the people who had bullied me were now trying to be my mate and thought I was cool.

Just get on with being yourself, mix with people who know where you're coming from and don't hate others because of what they wear or who they listen to ... that will make you as bad as them.

 

i would just like to point out at this moment that punk and emo are and always have been musical styles... not ideologies. (how can one punk band sing of hating capatalism and the war and another sing of killing "ragheads", if it were an ideology).

people who think that the music you listen too dictates the person you have to be are pretty foolish...

i listen to the cure quite a bit... doesn't make me want to dress in black and slit my wrists.... listening to greenday doesn't make me want to spike my hair and dye it green.

and yet it seems to be a problem amongst many. i remember being 17 and watching bands like korn and machine head. and the amount of people that were psudo-manic-depressive all dressed in black hating the world... simply because (it would seem) the narrow genere of music they have allowed them selves to listen to dictates it.

unfourtunately this pheonominon(sp*) has manifested itself most horrendously in the form of the hip hop chav. all those guns and bitches poppin caps in each others asses must take its toll on the bling bling crowd that seems to build the albums of this musical ilk into some kind of bible for stupid people.

the sooner people see the difference between music and mentality the better.

It doesn't matter if you're black or white, whatever stinking hoodies you wear, whatever bargain basement sludge shit you put in your hair, the crummy tunes you masturbate to or the ill thought out ideologies you have that you think would be a "really neat idea". A lot of people are shitty twats, and it stands to reason, the world is a shitty place.

I'm off to sit and smoke dope with a bunch of burberry clad gentleman. I dress like a dork, I hope they don't call me names and pull my hair.

 

well today i was stood in line at a shop and could hear people behind sayin stuff like 'fuckin sweaty mosha' so i just told em to fuck off.

you get used to it after a while
