yes, this is idle musings, but hear me out:

You know how we have a "child predator" and "sex offender" database that makes living the rest of your life a bitch if you abuse children or rape someone?

How about a published list of executives collecting bonuses after their financial institution takes government bailouts? Make 'em famous, not on national news, but at their local grocery store, at the post office, and at the golf club.

Why not on a national level? Surely a private organization could accomplish a task like this. I like the idea. Wouldn't be surprised if this would be construed as a hit list however, especially after one of the names on the list was targeted. (who could resist?) :)

the reason I would go local with it is that it is a lot more embarrassing when your local community shames you.

In my view, the public shaming method does not effectively resolve the real issues of why something was a failure to begin with.

It is, however, a strong deterrent and an effective way for the community to exorcise its anger.

Good point. It would be most effective to link it with a proposed law.

    Regulating financial instruments appears easier.

I'll take prevention over punishment any day---

Well it appears the Bush administration has decided instead to give them a huge tax break without congressional oversight. I doubt they would want their friends' abuses listed nationwide on any sort database. They prefer to meet in secret closed groups and party.
