Pre-Employment Drug Screening

How do you guys feel about it? (I think I already know)

There is an open interview at QuikTrip tomorrow and I plan on going. Upon being hired, they ask for a drug test (I think) - I'm not worried about not passing it, however I think that pre-employment drug screenings are pretty intrusive.

I can quit smoking easily, but I'd rather be able to live my life how I wish as long as I show up to work completely sober and responsibly...I feel drug tests should only be given when there is reason to believe an employee is impaired in some way.

I probably won't take the test until the end of my spring break too, so that means I can't smoke at all...it is just aggravating.

 

I think it's a BS invasion of privacy. What I do on my own time is none of your business. Just because it's illegal must mean they think you're either doing it at work, or you shouldn't be allowed to do it at all. Meh, land of the free my ass, lol.

 

The only time I think it would be necessary is if you're working with heavy duty equipment, like cranes & shit. But even then all you have to do is stop long enough 2 pass the test & then u can start back up again. I'm actually doing the same thing. I haven't smoked in 2 months just b/c I've been looking 4 a job. Now that I know for the job I was offered has a pre-employment one I'm glad I stopped long enough to pass. But as soon as its over I'll start again. To me the real b.s. ones are the random tests, esp at wal-mart. I mean, they have retards & people who barely speak english working there. So basically what they're saying is they would rather have a retard or someone who cant even speak our language work there than a casual smoker who can actually do shit & talk to & help customers.

 

you get tested at KwikTrip because you get benefits working for them... and whether or not you like to live your life however you feel.. some places prefer to have people weened out that could be a possibility of being a hazard to employees or customers... i realize that it's tough for some people to understand.. but even though you think marijuana is fun to do.. it's still illegal.. so either clean up and get a great job with benefits or go find yourself something else that doesn't involve a UA

 

Go to Coopers right off Broadway mang. I went there yesterday and purchased the XXTRA clean detox drink. If you're getting tested by an employer go up there and get the number one. its a belt you wrap around you with synthetic urine. $45 and you're gaurenteed to pass.

For police, people working with machinery, military, etc etc I can see it. But I mean really...the position that I'm applying for at QuikTrip is essentially a glorified janitor. I had to take one at Best Buy too which was really retarded - I can't see how anyone could handle working at that shit hole without something to keep them going.

 

I'm clean and all, and it isn't that big of a deal for me to not smoke, I just enjoy doing so on spring break...

 

If it's a government job or a job that requires the use of machinery I'm cool with it, but to be drug tested to work at say Wal-Greens, it's like c'mon

 

Some jobs its like youre supposed to be a stoner for that position.

 

I just think that drug-screens are targeting the use of marijuana because of it's ease to be detected. It is one of the least harmful drugs, yet it is the easiest to detect.

Employers shouldn't worry about marijuana use as much as trying to find cocaine, crack, opiates, etc which cause dependency and can(before you all bust my balls) lead to a bad worker.

 

all i have to say is you don't HAVE to work there... i mean they're not putting a gun to your head saying WORK HERE OR DIE. usually chain stores test, just because they have the money to do so. go to a local place, they don't have the money or time to test you.

 

Well...in case you haven't heard the economy is in the shitter and any job is a good job. I don't have one and am completely broke. My parents don't do handouts very much and I need money before I go to college soooo yeah I kind of HAVE to have this job.

I'm not going to risk not getting this job because it drug-tests, it's just that I think on a moral standard it is bullshit.

 

It was said before about drug tests only really reveal weed & not other drugs. Not only that, but it doesn't reveal if the person is an alcoholic who goes home & beats his wife & kids. So rather than hiring some recreational smoker b/c they fail the test they hire an alcoholic who has all sorts of issues. But I guess in their opinion they would rather have a guy that takes out all his anger & issues @ home than some peaceful stoner who works just as well.

 

minimum pay jobs are everywhere... i guess someone lied to you.

of these, almost all that i know don't test for anything at any time. i'm sure you could find just ONE... considering i know of 3 right off the top of my head

 

1) I'm over-qualified for most minimum pay jobs, why not look to be payed what I'm worth?

2) Most minimum pay jobs do in fact screen for drugs - McDonald's definitely does.

3) I wouldn't want to work a minimum wage job anyways, because most likely I'm doing shit work, for shit pay, for a shit manager, that doesn't know shit - but happens to be paid a shit ton more than me.

4) Seriously, I am not worried about not passing drug tests - I can and will whenever they are presented - even if I didn't smoke marijuana, it is still an invasion of privacy. Here's the deal: Your employer accuses you of illegal activity and you have to prove to them you haven't. Well...my labor is worth more than what they are paying me - otherwise they wouldn't have hired me - yet they think I am a criminal. Sounds like a great employer, right?

Once you get confronted with this stuff in the job world it gets a little frustrating. Read up on rights and stuff and you'll also recognize that this is some top-notch private information that you basically have to sign away on if you wish to make any money.

Pre-employment drug screens have become a standard for an unknown reason...why would anyone willingly allow their employer to information about their bodies that doesn't need to be shared? - It's all about someone having control over you.

Dude...why would I want a minimum wage job when I will probably be hired at QuikTrip? lol 8.25+ sounds a lot better than 6.00 or whatever it is.

 

Because if that falls through you'll see just how crappy the economy is, shit and I had a job that paid $9.15 with overtime on Sundays, god I'm a moron for quitting that

 

My sister wanted to convince my parents she was only smoking marijuana and not cocaine or anything so they had her go to a drug clinic or whatever for a piss test and it came back positive as "Cannabinoids". She kept it. Pretty funny (the story when she told it).

 

Eh...I'm still not going to work at any fast-food joint...I really don't care
