A 5 day outage in a nearby town got me thinking aboout the catastrophic effects this would have on a grow. How long can a plant in each stage of life survive without light. I was thinking the best thing to do would be move the plants into a room with windows and cover the windows with think blinds for security. This wouldn't provide adequate light, but it might keep them alive. Any thoughts
I found out an aquantance who had a shop in the same bulding as mine was growing there because of a power outage. The power was only out for about 10-12hrs. Without ventilation and oder control the whole building and loading dock reeked. He had a semi large(4x1000w) grow in a back room of his space and his plants were about a mounth into flower. He figured the power woud be back on within 24hrs and a day in the dark wouldn't hurt plants in flower so he did nothing. We had done a show and were hanging out on the dock not wanting to unload the truck in the dark, drinking beers and trying to figuer out who in the building was growing(2 scenic shops, a recording studio, a custom bike fabricator, a woodworking shop, 2 sound/light companys and several artists, so anyone really) when he came by freaking out. Me and my partner had smoked with him and had a few beers with Mr. X but weren't super close, but I guess since we were around he asked us to help him kill the grow before he got popped. He was totaly convinced that somehow he was gonna get busted. The three of us bagged his plants and took down the most incrimating parts of his set up in a couple of hours. The power came back on not long after we finished. He still drops by and dukes us a sack every now and then, so I assume he's back up in a new, or mayby even the same spot.
We've had power outages up 4 days without a problem as long as the temps are moderate and we kept them moist they weathered just fine. just remember to keep lights out when power is restored and reset timer to allow resumption of normal lighting, this keeps them on their normal schedule with the least stress.>)
Soil could go for 3 or 4 days i would of thought but hydro would be a hole new ball game and would.nt be long before ya have to manually start watering.
Yeah that's exactly what I did scoop water out of the tank into a watering can and sprinkle every other day, now that's assuming one is using coco or other substrate that retains moisture well. Hydroton and the like would probly be a lot like work.....watering several times a day to keep roots moist:>)
gets yourself a generator, and low wattage full coverage bulbs.. 1/60w fluoros, =300w eqv.. 60 x 16 = 960Watts.. 16 of these lights =300 x 16 = 4800eqv Watts.. A 1000watt generator will ease your panic streak..
