Dutch company plans to sell world's first pot pill HARRO TEN WOLDE Reuters News Agency January 24, 2008 AMSTERDAM -- Drug company Echo Pharmaceuticals expects to sell the world's first cannabis pill within five years, targeting a $5.97-billion global market, its chief executive officer said. The privately held Dutch company faces competition from Canada's Cannasat, which is also developing a pill. In 2005, Canada became the first country in the world to approve a cannabis-based spray produced by Britain's GW Pharmaceuticals PLC as a treatment for multiple sclerosis. U.S. regulators granted approval for a clinical trial for GW's under-the-tongue spray called Sativex, but the company said in July that European regulators had requested a further clinical study before granting approval. Echo said it will start clinical studies and trials of its pill, to be marketed as Namisol, in the first half of 2008. "The global cannabis-based drugs market could be worth €4-billion [$5.97-billion]," Echo Pharmaceuticals CEO Geert Woerlee said yesterday. "As an early adopter, we could get 20-to-30-per-cent market share." He said studies showed that cannabis-based drugs may be effective for diseases such as Parkinson's and MS, could relieve migraines and could also help people with Alzheimer's. The cannabis for Echo's pill will come from a Dutch grower with the permission of the government, which said in November it wanted to promote the development of cannabis-based medicine. Echo Pharmaceuticals, based in Weesp close to Amsterdam, has secured $4.4-million from a private investor to get the drug to Phase 2 studies. It then hopes to team up with a company or investor to take the pill to the market. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/LAC.20080124.LWWEEDPILL24//TPStory/Life
I still like smoking better, there is just an awesome social aspect to it. A pill is still pretty damn cool. Good step towards medical legalization right there.
Im guessing they are trying to use real thc instead of this synthetic crap they put in the marinol and the like here.
^Exactly, synthetic thc just aint the same. Granted it may help people and thats great.......but its just not the "real" thing!
well they don't use synthetic cannabis for the marinol pill either......its just synthetic thc. Im really hoping that the people that you posted are trying to use real thc for the pills. Im still going to smoke it, but it would just be alot better for the people that NEED the pill, if it was real thc verse synthetic thc.
With this will come a whole lot of stupid fuckers trying to snort these pills. EDIT:damnit, no more frotwenty postcount anymore...
Im imagining it will be like edibles........eat a couple, wait an hour or so, couchlock high from hell!! Id rather just smoke it!
I think a pot pill that uses the real deal would be a big step forward for Medical Cannabis. Some people just can't eat pot because they don't like how it tastes. A pill is like the basis of all modern medications. I would much rather just take some percocets and then smoke a few bowls. Hopefully I will be getting some xanax next week. If not I can always buy a few Norco 10/325s.
haha this thread reminded me of that quote from Mean Girls: "Has Miss Norbory ever tried to sell you marijuana or ecstasy tablets?" "What are marijuana tablets?"
