Pompeii Movie Blurb by Shale February 21, 2014 This is a disaster movie about the total destruction of one of the two cities under Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE when that volcano erupted violently. It is also a good sword & sandals adventure movie. It is advertised as being 3-D. I saw it in 2-D but if you are into that gimmick I'll bet it will be a visual treat. The cataclysmic eruption was presented well and likely a realistic portrayal of the occurrence. (The ppl did not die of asphyxiation as earlier thot but due to intense heat that killed them instantly). But this is not a documentary on Pompeii's destruction - it is just the final setting of a human drama that started in Britannia when a Roman legion, led by Corvus (Kiefer Sutherland) attacks a Celt Horsemen tribe and kills everyone. Except Milo, a kid who hid in a pile of dead bodies and escaped, later to be caught and sold into slavery. He grew up to be a successful gladiator (Kit Harington) and taken back to Pompeii where he would make more money for his owner. Milo - Killer Gladiator On the way he meets Cassia (Emily Browning) daughter of a wealthy merchant of Pompeii, when her horse is injured and he is allowed to help her with it. (OK, this stuff between a rich noble woman and a slave in Ancient Roman culture likely would not have happened, but who knows? Enjoy the budding romance). His cell mate is Atticus (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) the champion, undefeated gladiator (being alive is a clue). Atticus, who gets his freedom if he wins one more fight will likely be paired against Milo because they are the two top fighters and the Romans don't like retirement plans. Meanwhile back in the world of aristocracy, Roman Senator Corvus shows up and wants to marry Cassia - who does not like the brute in fine clothing. Senator Corvus Corvus sees Cassia's affection for the slave Milo when he is put on display. He plans to have the gladiators killed in an unfair fight when they have one arm chained in the arena. Gladiators Atticus & Milo Fight Together Both Atticus and Milo use their battle skills to defeat overwhelming odds, making a mockery of the Centurions who were sent in to kill them. Corvus sends in more archers to execute the victors but before that order can be carried out - Yep, Vesuvius! Literally, All Hell Breaks Loose! In the pandemonium, Milo and Atticus escape the coliseum as well as Corvus who has Cassia. More swords and sandals while the mountain is raining down flaming bombs amid earthquakes and tsunamis. Milo and Cassia finally find each other and make their way thru the crumbling city. Cassia and Milo Huddled in Doorway They make a mad dash by horseback to outrun the pyroclastic flow seen coming down the side of Vesuvius and engulfing Pompeii. I actually liked the movie, but I have been watching these kinds of movies since I was a kid and apparently can still tap into that space.
Thanks Shale, Sounds like my type of movie as well :2thumbsup: Must be an awfully fast horse because pyroclastic flows can reach speeds of up to 400 mph and temperatures of 2000 degrees Fahrenheit Hotwater
Yeah, the horse actually didn't make it. Don't want to spoil the ending, which is fairly realistic considering it is an action/adventure movie. But also consider that altho possibly 10,000 ppl died in Pompeii, there were some survivors so, apparently some ppl escaped the pyroclastic flow somehow. You will just have to see the movie - I ain't sayin any more.
