Hello. Does anyone here use it? I recently started making things out of it but Im really just experimenting - I dont know too much about it? I used fimo and fimo soft. Fimo was harder to work with. I bought some sculpey but havent tried it yet. Just wondering if anyone had any tips, and what do you recommend to use? Also, where did you buy it? I bought a book but it was kinda useless... nicky
Hi, I have used polymer clay before. I mostly used it to make my own beads. I personally like the Fimo better but have used the Sculpey before. I also used a pasta machine to help knead it out which REALLy helps. Umm, I don't really know whatelse to say but if you have a specific quesiton I may be able to help. Sorry! jules Oh one more thing...I buy mine when it is on sale at either Michaels or Hobby Lobby. They will usually put them half off which really makes a difference! I also made face shards too with a mold but some of the molds aren't worth what you pay for them.
There was a recent thread about it here, not that much info though: http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112826 I had previously looked at air drying Newplast Newclay or some such, which was quite a lot cheaper, at least here anyway. It has nylon in it as a sort of composite reinforcement, so it's sort of polymer based - you then use a hardener to accelerate drying. Not quite as cool as rapid curing in an oven but I've always been a little suspicious about putting plastic-based things in the same place where I bake food and stuff! This australian site has some tips on polymer clay but it's by no means a complete guide or manual: http://www.polymerclay.com.au/Tips & Techniques.htm -- Jules (another one!)
I've used polymer's...the last time I bought any,I got it at Hobby Lobby...and like Jules said, they usually have good prices. And Cymru...I have also wondered about the fumes from the clay and if it's healthy or not...
Hey Crimsonbreeze... I'm actually a full time polymer clay jewelry artist here in the St. Louis area. If you have a Micheals craft store in your area... wait until they have sales on their clay. I personally use Premo. Instead of paying $2.50 per 2oz block... it's only 99 or sometimes 88 cents when they run their sale. Check out www.polymerclaycentral.com and visit their message board. It's a good place to meet polymer clay artists, view people's work and to learn new techniques. Here is an example of my work. Matthew Nix www.createapendant.com
Hey Pendants-your work is really good!! I like those a lot. Thanks for the info everyone. There is a Michaels in my area and someone gave me a dick blick catalog also. I am going to try to get better at the whole thing. I have never used Premo - perhaps I will try it. thanks again
i tried going to the link but it brought me to a stamp shop and when i clicked on the message board it wanted me fill out some form and what program i was interested in studying!
Holey Cow... what the heck!? Something isn't right. It's the right url... don't know what's going on. Keep that link... I'm sure someone will figure out that the wrong site is now on that url. I was just there yesterday! It's not spose to be this stamp club. Polymer clay central will hopefully be up again soon. Something is definately wrong. Matthew
