http://www.politicalcompass.org/test I am certain this has been posted here before, but I am not in the mood to wade through pages of threads to find it. Here are my results: Your political compass Economic Left/Right: -6.88 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.23
Not that this test really means anything, but.... Economic Left/Right: 3.38 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.21
Economic Left/Right: -9.38 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.46 No surprises here for me. Still, as a hard-nosed Leftist, I have to reject these kind of political compasses as obscurantist. I feel such opinion compasses obfuscate the REAL ideological antagonisms within the political economic system - by the very suggestion of providing an 'objective' test to gauge political conviction. Come election time in the Netherlands, it turns out something like 80% of the voters fill out these kind of tests to find out who they should vote for. Now I'm sure effort goes into getting the tests to deliver a 'representative' result, so 'conservatives' can be affirmed in their conservatism, 'liberals' in their liberalism, etc. etc. It has, in other words, shit all to do with political economic reality.
Those tests are rather silly, methinks. I don't like things designed to classify and pigeonhole people according to a predetermined label. I wholeheartedly reject the left/right political spectrum. I took the test once before and couldn't even answer most of the questions since none of the multiple choice answers matched my views. Many years ago I considered myself to loosely be a libertarian, but now I would be mostly aligned with a truly anarchistic point of view (not the black bloc, government-funded leftists who only pose as anarchists and destroy private property).
Tests like this makes one's political leanings very 2 dimensional. Like this question: Those with the ability to pay should have a right to higher standards of healthcare. My own answer to that woud be so complex and complicated that I don't really feel comfortable agreeing or disagreeing with it. I could write pages on my beliefs regarding healthcare. But since this isn't an essay test... I got Economic Left/Right: -7.12 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.51 I'm almost exactly where you are, Maelstrom.
I readily admit that I am, politically, an odd one. I am all about things like loyalty, honor, and discipline. Basically, I am all about the martial ideal. However, on the flip side, I am also all about people doing whatever the fuck they want with their bodies, with whomever they want.
So we agree I think politics should be a conversation, not a score based on two dimensional questions. These tests are fun but they don't really prove anything. You and I agree on personal liberty and we've agreed on other subjects before too. When we've disagreed it has been respectful. But if you look at our political compass scores it looks like we wouldn't even be able to find enough common ground to hold an intelligient conversation.
NEVER!!! EVERYTHING YOU POSTED IS BULLSHIT!!!! oh wait..... Yep, I completely agree, you dirty commie.
So you think only two people with a similar score could hold an intelligent conversation? Some of the best conversations/discussions I had were with people with completely different views. And you spelled intelligent wrong, it always cracks me up when people do that. :2thumbsup:
I don't think she is saying that at all. I think she was merely pointing out that, if you went off of these types of stupid (but fun) tests, there would be no common ground to be found between her and I.
yeah I always spell intelligent wrong. I have no idea why I want to insert an extra I. And no, I love talking to people who hold opposing views. I also think that today's political climate creates a lot of differences where differences don't really exist. Two people can disagree on political theory while still being very similiar, but putting people on one side of the equation or another can be really polarizing. I think that polarization often causes discussions to disintegrate past intelligEnt debate into useless arguing.
