I was just wondering how often the police do the ''coffeeshop check-ups'' for passports... coz i dont realy wanna carry my passport on me all the time and i've heard that the cops arent as flexible as the coffeeshops and would only accept the actual passport rather than a fotocopy... On my first visit to the dam i used a fotocopy and they accepted it as I.D with no probelm, but i was only in the city for half a day so i wasnt realy there long enough to have to go through any check-up. This time ill be there for a bit longer (2 and a half days; 13th to the 16th of march). I suppose im just curious realy... ...I knw this is a silly question but im stoned n bored with nothing else better to do... hahaha cheers!
you are actually required to carry your passport with you at all times. even living here as a registered citizen i have to carry it. welcome to the new world order baby. and the coffeeshops are not flexible. i used to work in one, and if you looked under 25 i checked your id. i only took drivers licenses, government issued ids and passports. granted the shop i worked in was a bit strict because we very busy and you can lose your coffeeshop license for having underage people in. but plan on carrying your passport, just keep it on you, not in your bag or your jacket. not that pickpockets are bad here (i have only heard of one pickpocket story in two years) but you never know.
ok... you say they only accept passports and licenses... i wud have the fotocopy of the passport on me, whats the problem... maybe it wouldn't be sufficient for the cops but why should it be a problem for the coffeshops? they can still see that im over 18... if neccesarry ill show them a fotocopy of my license and my passport...
i was not able to accept a photocopy. just be careful, and carry around your license or passport. you'll be fine.
