Sigh, I don't know if it is selfish to pray but all I have been doing all this summer is asking God to make things better for me. I don't know if it is bad karma or not but I am unable to find a summer job... actually I had a job but it was not giving me any money until yesterday and today i quit because now i am sick of it. Anyway, I am in a little financial burden so please pray for me ! may Sri Mahalaxmi shower her grace toward me so that i can pay for my college and ofcourse may Mahalaxmi also shower her blessings on everyone here, so that they may never be in any financial distress!. Yours truly, Jedi...
Om Shri Mahalakshmi Namah! Om Shri Mahalakshmi Namah! Om Shri Mahalakshmi Namah! May the Divine Mother shower Her blessings on you.
No i wouldnt say it's selfish, sounds like you've had a tough few months Jedi. Hope and pray things improve for you.
Don't pray for things... Just pray as a thanksgiving for all you have. Remember the man who complained of an arthritic leg, until he saw an amputee. It is at times like this, moments of personal crisis and hardship, that you face the true test of spirituality. May you find within you the strength to brave this trial and come out stronger, purer and nobler. Kamale kamalaksha vallabhe tvam karunakara tarangitairapangai avolkya mama kincanam prathamam param akrutimaam dayaayaaha. O Lotus-eyed Lakshmi, Beloved of Vishnu, your benevolence flows like a river with dancing waves. I am not deceitful, I beg you to kindly direct your glance upon me.
There is another school of thought which says we should ask for everything - all our needs. Money is essential to ensure our continuation in this life, that is for people living ordinary lives 'in the world'. To whom should one turn in difficulty if not to the Divine? I'm not suggesting that one should simply ask for desires etc to be fulfilled, but that we should recieve what is necessary for our existence. Money is one such necessity. In this world, without it, one can do nothing, not even sustain the body.
Yes I'd say it all depends if you praying for something that is 100% needed or not. I think God will have compassion on a ernest pray.
Absolutely! Bill, I was not suggetsing anything other than what you said in your post. However, I find that usually, what we absolutely need is given to us anyway. I just feel very hesitant to pray FOR anything these days, because I feel that the Lord has already showered so many blessing supon me, giving me a good storng healthy body, a truly wonderful family, sufficient wealth and opportunities and gret satsang with one of the great gurus in the world. GOd has blessed me with all worldly things, what more can I ask of him? I would offer him a gift, but all tha I have is his prasad and it wouldbe rude to return it to him. The only thing that is truly mine is my ego and my ignorance, I pray for the strength to fully surrender that at Sri Rama's lotus feet.
wow thanks all, actually i got a job today. I would be starting from this monday , I don't know if this is a coincidence but hey I don't care haha. Jai sriman narayana. Actually thanks for praying...the last job I had was for a health care org, but this is in my University... this job doesn't pay much but hey, i still have something.
Congrats Jedi on your new job. Sometimes I think God wants us to pray to acknowledge his hand in all creation. And it can be a good stepping stone to a deeper connection.
jedi don't use the power of prayer for petty purposes Please I hate this give and take that people are doing all the time Half the time I hear people telling god if you give me abc I will do xyz and so on and on This is just plain silly behaviour......
Yes, you are absolutely right. however, I have to do what I have to do, and for that asking God's help is not silly. We can't give anything back to God except love and that too only through his grace.
Most definitely BlackBillBlake, even more to realise there is only him. Then there would be no cause to pray. Thats the aim for all of us I believe.
When shit hits the fan, everybody runs to god ! No..do you seriously you think you don't have a job because of BAD Karma ? People don't get jobs because they don't have the right skill sets or do not possess the required qualifications and a whole host of reasons Bad KARMA is however not one of those reasons
To half hippie, I don't think anyone has to worry about running to God when they are in trouble, he is the protector of all souls and he is the only refuge in your times of need, so you should not feel silly , nor should you hold yourself from asking God anything , thats what I think . Also, I do believe me going broke and not having enough to get myself back to college could be my bad karma- because i can't find a logical explanation that would explain my money situation... i have a job but no money.. until last week when i finally quit and got another job. when it comes to skill being involved, well for a college student who wants a part time job to pay for his college, skill is hardly the issue... you just have to be a good communicator and willing to handle anything thrown at you. thats all.
